zkSync to Airdrop 17.5% of ZK Token Supply Next Week, 695K Wallets Are Eligible

Over 695,232 eligible wallets will receive this token as part of zkSync’s decentralization efforts and community empowerment strategy. The airdrop is scheduled to begin next week and continue until January 3, 2023.

Empowering zkSync’s Community with ZK Tokens

As a crypto investor, I’m excited about the potential of the ZK token. With this token in my possession, I’ll have the power to participate in key decisions related to protocol upgrades. In a recent blog post on ZK Nation, zkSync provided insight into how they plan to distribute their token supply. Approximately two-thirds (67%) of the tokens are designated for the community. A portion of the tokens, equivalent to 17.5%, will be given out in one instance as airdrops. The remaining tokens will gradually be allocated to foster various initiatives within the ecosystem over an extended period.

As a crypto investor, I follow a strategic allocation plan where 17.2% is set aside for investors and 16.1% is reserved for the Matter Labs team. These funds will be locked in for a period of one year, following which they will be gradually released over the next three years.

zkSync’s Airdrop Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for zkSync’s airdrop, users must have engaged in transactions using their wallets on either the zkSync Era or zkSync Lite networks prior to the snapshot taken on March 24.

Two primary categories of individuals are entitled to obtain the ZK token: those who conducted transactions on ZKsync and fulfilled certain conditions, and individuals who supported the ecosystem through development projects, promotional activities, or educational initiatives.

The airdrop will include bonuses based on signs of genuine engagement from humans. Some actions that qualify for these bonuses are owning NFTs and ERC20 tokens on zkSync, using smart contract wallets, and participating in past airdrops within Ethereum communities.

To maintain a level playing field, each address can hold a maximum of 100,000 ZK tokens, while a minimum of 450 ZK tokens is guaranteed for each one. This approach prevents a small number of individuals from amassing large allocations, ensuring that more community members receive a fair share.

As an analyst, I would explain it this way: Users will not have to wait for the community allocation of ZK tokens to be vested before they can trade them. At present, ZK is available for pre-market trading on exchange Aevo at roughly $0.35 per token. The market potential for ZK is forecasted by analysts to exceed $10 billion based on current estimates.

ZK Airdrop More than Symbolic

As an analyst, I’ve noticed that recent protocol airdrops have been met with criticism from the community regarding their distribution strategies. In contrast, zkSync intends to distinguish itself by prioritizing the community in its token allocation. Compared to other projects where the team and investors received a larger share of tokens, Ethereum Layer 2’s decision to distribute more tokens to the community signifies a significant move towards empowering the community.

Cryptocurrency supporters on social media, particularly Twitter, have praised this development, even as some individuals regretfully missed out on the airdrop. The highly anticipated “Mother of All Airdrops” is nearing, sparking great enthusiasm and eagerness among community members.
