Will Smith Departs Sugar Bandits Thriller Movie Cast, Project’s Future Unclear

As a longtime fan who has witnessed Will Smith’s incredible acting journey, I must admit that his decision to drop out of Sugar Bandits left me somewhat disappointed. Having looked forward to seeing him in action as a former Special Forces soldier tackling the drug trade in Boston, I can’t help but feel a twinge of regret. However, with multiple projects such as the I Am Legend sequel and Bad Boys 5 on the horizon, it seems that there is still plenty for us Smith enthusiasts to look forward to!

Will Smith will no longer be starring in Sugar Bandits.

In February 2024, it became known that Smith will appear in a fresh thriller film titled “Sugar Bandits.” This movie is under the guidance of director Stefano Sollima, who has previously worked on Without Remorse and Sicario: Day of the Soldado

By the set deadline, Smith has withdrawn from the movie owing to scheduling issues; however, it remains unclear at present what project the Men in Black actor will take up in place of the Sugar Bandits

As a gamer, I’m pumped about some upcoming projects that have been officially unveiled. One of them is a sequel to the 2007 hit I Am Legend, where I’ll once again step into the shoes of my character. This time, Michael B. Jordan will join me on the screen. Another exciting project is Resistor, a sci-fi thriller film produced by Sony Pictures, where I’m set to play the lead role. Lastly, I’m producing the next Karate Kid movie, which you can expect to hit the screens in 2025!

Discussions are ongoing, but there’s a possibility that the Bad Boys franchise could continue after the blockbuster success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die. Both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have expressed interest in returning for a potential Bad Boys 5, provided that younger actors capable of handling more strenuous action sequences are included

What is happening with Sugar Bandits now that Will Smith has dropped out?

Although Westbrook Production Company plans to re-cast Smith’s character and shoot the movie in 2025, Deadline has raised doubts about the project’s continuation, indicating an uncertainty about its future

The approximately $80 million project was marketed globally at the European Film Market (EFM) and Cannes Film Festival, securing deals with top independent distributors and Amazon Prime. It was agreed that Smith would feature in this production

The film centers around a ex-Special Forces operative who teams up with an exceptional, undercover group dedicated to dismantling the drug cartels in Boston. However, he quickly discovers that all is not as it seems

The film “Sugar Bandits” is adapted from a 2010 novel titled “The Devils in Exile,” penned by Chuck Hogan. Hogan also wrote the screenplay for this movie. They are planning to announce further casting details once the official production start date has been confirmed
