Has Sony canceled It Ends with Us 2, It Starts with Us?

Sony has neither canceled nor confirmed a renewal for the movie adaptation of It Starts With Us.

In August 2024, a movie adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel “It Ends With Us” hit theaters. The film’s impressive performance at the box office has sparked rumors about a potential sequel, inspired by Hoover’s 2022 book “It Starts With Us.” So far, Sony, the studio behind the movie, hasn’t confirmed any plans for a follow-up. However, with projected earnings of $300 million and an estimated profit of around $30 million, the original film has been a significant financial success.

It appears that the current situation is mostly caused by reported off-screen disputes between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, according to Variety. More recently, Baldoni has hired crisis PR specialist Melissa Nathan, who previously worked with Johnny Depp during his trial with Amber Heard. This development follows a growing buzz among TikTok users about a potential disagreement between Baldoni and his cast, including Blake Lively and Hoover. The rumors grew stronger when people noticed Baldoni’s absence from joint press conferences and the lack of group photos featuring him and Lively at the New York premiere on August 6, 2024 (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter).

But one thing we all can confirm. That would be Justin Baldoni will not be taking on the role of a director. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the film’s premiere. He politely declined the opportunity to return to the director’s position. He said, “I think there are better people for that one. I think Blake Lively’s ready to direct. That’s what I think.”
