Dakota Johnson has discussed her part in the 2024 film ‘Madame Web’, admitting that it didn’t do well commercially. The movie struggled at the box office and didn’t seem popular with viewers, which she believes was due to changes in the film’s direction during production.
Here’s what she said.
Dakota Johnson talks about Madame Web box office verdict
In simpler terms, during an interview on the show “Hot Ones” with host Sean Evans, Dakota Johnson didn’t shy away from expressing her honest thoughts about Madame Web’s performance. Instead of being serious, she chose to add some humor when responding to a playful superhero remark.
In the interview, Evans said, “I’m not a superhero. I still feel the heat,” in response to the hotness of their wings. Johnson then grinned and said, “Neither am I a superhero. I gave it a shot, but I couldn’t handle it.
On previous occasions, Johnson has been frank about the project, and in an interview with The Los Angeles Times, she shared insights about her work on the film and its flaws. She expressed her thoughts as follows: “It wasn’t my fault. Nowadays, many creative decisions are made by a group (committee). Or by individuals who lack creativity. It can be challenging to create art under such circumstances.
She went on to clarify that it strayed from its initial path. Essentially, the actress conveyed that the project known as Madame Web initially set out in one direction but ended up transforming into something else. At a certain stage, she was merely tagging along, but she acknowledged that such occurrences are part of the creative process.
In the film Madame Web, Johnson assumed the character of Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who acquires psychic abilities and foresight following a close brush with death. The movie boasted an extensive cast including Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott. However, it failed to generate significant interest. The film’s theatrical debut resulted in underwhelming box office receipts, with estimates suggesting it brought in only $51.5 million worldwide, significantly less than its production budget of $80 million.
