As a parent of two young children and a teacher with over two decades of experience, I find the “Superman” trend on TikTok deeply concerning. The thought that my students or my own kids might get hurt because of a senseless social media challenge is unbearable.
On TikTok, the “Superman” challenge has been drawing notice due to its potentially harmful and daring actions, causing increasing worry among health officials and parents. The challenge motivates kids to carry out hazardous feats for online content, resulting in an uptick in accidents.
Currently, there’s a lot of interest about the ‘Superman’ challenge on TikTok and its potential risks. Let me shed some light on it for you.
What is the ‘Superman’ trend on TikTok?
On TikTok, a popular social media platform, an alarming trend called the “Superman challenge” is causing concern worldwide due to multiple injuries among children participating. The challenge involves tossing a child into the air, giving the illusion of flight like a superhero. In North Macedonia last week, at least 17 children aged 10-17 were hospitalized with broken bones and bruises from attempting this stunt. Similar incidents have been reported in other countries such as Romania and Israel, where numerous children needed medical attention due to the challenge. This has sparked discussions about potentially banning TikTok over safety concerns.
As a concerned gamer, I’m expressing my agreement with the Liberal-Democratic Party in North Macedonia, who’ve urged for the swift deletion of violent and self-destructive content from social media platforms like TikTok. They’re right to point out that such content can easily reach young, impressionable users, potentially putting them at risk, especially children. I also share their disappointment about the inadequate regulation on these platforms.
In response to this issue, TikTok has started displaying an advisory notice when users search for the “Superman” challenge, informing them that the content might not be suitable for all audiences. However, there’s still a worry that stronger measures are necessary to halt the propagation of potentially harmful challenges like this one.
