As a lifelong fan of Taylor Swift, this news about the cancellation of her Vienna concerts left me reeling. I remember watching her perform live for the very first time, and that electrifying energy she brings to every concert is something I’ve always cherished.
The current leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour is underway, with performances taking place across Europe. Originally, she was set to perform three shows in Vienna, Austria on August 8, 9, and 10. Unfortunately, these concerts have now been called off, and ticket holders have received their refunds.
Let’s delve into the details behind the cancellation of the Eras tour concerts in Vienna, and understand the reasons for this unfortunate turn of events.
Why was Taylor Swift’s Vienna concert canceled?
It was announced that Taylor Swift’s performances in Vienna had been called off due to the apprehension of two individuals who were under suspicion for plotting a potential act of terrorism.
Due to a potential terrorist threat in Vienna confirmed by authorities, three upcoming performances of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour were unfortunately canceled. On Wednesday, police apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in this matter; one at morning hours and another in the afternoon, both being Austrian citizens aged 19.
At a press conference, Franz Ruf, head of public safety within the Ministry of the Interior, shared some insights. He indicated that the alleged perpetrators had radicalized themselves online and that Vienna was the location they intended to attack. Moreover, he pointed out that the primary target for the actions of the 19-year-old was a concert by Swift. According to ABC News sources, U.S. Intelligence discovered in early July that at least one of the suspects made a commitment to ISIS-K on Telegram, a messaging app.
Following the announcement of an impending terror threat at Ernst Happel Stadium by government authorities, Barracuda Music has regretfully decided to call off the upcoming performances over the next three days, prioritizing everyone’s well-being. Refunds for all tickets will be processed within the next 10 business days.
Consequently, the performances scheduled in Vienna have been called off, and refunds are being processed. Upcoming concerts by Taylor Swift, slated for August 15, 16, and 17 in London, will cap off the European segment of the Eras tour.
