At the tender age of 5, Jack was diagnosed with a glioma. However, this health challenge didn’t stop him from making headlines when he scored an impressive 69-yard touchdown during Nebraska’s 2013 spring game, as reported by ESPN. This remarkable feat served as a catalyst, inspiring the creation of the Team Jack Foundation. Over time, this foundation has successfully raised more than $14 million for research into pediatric brain cancer.
Through a deep friendship forged with Rex Burkhead, the Nebraska Cornhuskers running back, Jack found himself. A viral touchdown catapulted him into fame, winning him an ESPY Award for “Outstanding Sports Moment” and securing a meeting with President Barack Obama. Despite the odds stacked against him, Jack persevered, excelling in high school football and completing his education in May 2024. Subsequently, he embarked on his academic journey at the University of Nebraska at Kearney as a pre-law student, even managing to make the dean’s list.
In 2021, Andy Hoffman, Jack’s father who significantly contributed to raising awareness about pediatric brain cancer through a foundation, lost his life due to glioblastoma. Throughout his life, Jack faced numerous treatments such as radiation and tumor removal surgery in 2024. Regardless of his deteriorating health, he remained an inspiring figure for those around him.
In recognition of Jack’s bravery and dedication towards raising awareness for cancer, both the University of Nebraska and the local community paid tribute to him. His remarkable touchdown, nicknamed “The Run,” stirred many hearts. The impact he made continues through the Team Jack Foundation. Jack Hoffman will always be remembered as a beacon of resilience and advocacy in the battle against pediatric brain cancer.
