As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast who has battled through countless wintery levels in video games, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement upon hearing about the upcoming sequel to “Violent Night.” Having spent countless hours defending my virtual family from holiday-themed hordes, I can relate to Santa Claus’s struggle for survival more than most.
The screenwriting duo of Pat Casey and Josh Miller have recently provided an update on Violent Night 2, having previously collaborated on the script for the 2022 action comedy film starring David Harbour. This announcement follows over a year since the sequel’s development began.
What did writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller say about Violent Night 2?
In a recent chat, Casey and Miller hinted at the content of Violent Night 2, confirming that the eagerly anticipated follow-up will undoubtedly broaden the narrative’s expanse.
According to Miller (via Collider), the upcoming “Violent Night” movie may not have the large budget of the “Sonic” films, but they aim to make it appear more expansive than its predecessor. Miller also mentioned that he doesn’t want Santa Claus confined solely within a mansion this time around.
Casey hinted that the upcoming sequel will feature “even more of David Harbour,” suggesting a deeper delve into the character’s backstory. He also jokingly mentioned, “Santa will be stripping down even more in this version. We’re giving the audience what they’ve been asking for.
The movie titled “Violent Night” was helmed by Tommy Wirkola, who also co-wrote the script alongside Pat Casey and Josh Miller. Notably, Wirkola is anticipated to direct the upcoming sequel as well. Joining the cast, led by Keanu Reeves lookalike John Leguizamo, are Cam Gigandet, Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Edi Patterson, and Beverly D’Angelo. The latter is famously known for her roles in the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” series.
During its time in cinemas, the movie generated global earnings of more than $76 million at the ticket counter, surpassing its estimated production cost of $20 million. Moreover, it received generally favorable critiques, achieving a 74% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
