Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Considered Core Franchise for Activision

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia hearing about the potential return of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. I remember spending countless hours mastering those tricks and grinds back in the day. The series was a staple in my gaming life, and it seems Activision is finally listening to the demands of its dedicated fanbase.

As a die-hard Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater fan, let me tell you – don’t fret! Hear us, Activision has been listening. Our passion for the game hasn’t gone unnoticed; our COO acknowledges the demand for more installments, viewing it as one of their core franchises.

Activision COO says the company has “heard the demand” for a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater

In a chat with Digital Trends, Activision’s COO Josh Taub shared that the company is aware of the desire for more Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, even though the latest one came out in 2020. They continue to view it as a significant part of their collection, which has been around for an impressive 25 years.

This month marks the 25th anniversary of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, and it continues to be a significant cornerstone for Activision as stated by Taub. The longevity and ongoing success of this franchise demonstrate its lasting impact and the dedicated player base.

Over the last four years, the Activision-owned Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series has remained idle, with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 being its latest release, which received positive reviews. However, a remake combining the third and fourth installments was underway, but it was abandoned when developer Vicarious Visions merged with Blizzard Entertainment.

In an interview with Andy Gentile of Twisted Pixel, Tony Hawk admitted that they were searching for someone to solve the equation 3 + 4, but they lacked the same level of trust in others as they did in Vicarious. So, they explored ideas from various studios such as “How would you handle a THPS title?” However, nothing they heard appealed to them, and that was the end of it.

Enthusiasm for a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game has waned slightly over time, but recently, the game’s official X (previously Twitter) account updated its profile picture and banner to mark its 25th anniversary. This suggests that Activision may soon be making an announcement about the series, leaving fans wondering what this potential news might entail.

This past month, I found myself in the hot seat on Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meal, fielding questions from the ever-enthusiastic Josh Scherer about the future of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. While I can’t spill all the beans just yet, I’m excited to reveal that I’ve been collaborating with Activision on a project – but, for now, the details are under wraps. Keep your eyes peeled, skaters!

Hawk shares, ‘I’d love to share more, but all I can say right now is that I’ve been speaking with Activision once more, and it’s absolutely thrilling!’ We’re developing something… I believe the fans are really going to enjoy it.

On September 29, 2024, we’ll be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. It’s just a guess, but it seems like an excellent opportunity to share some exciting news in the coming week.
