As a passionate binge-watcher and someone who’s always on the lookout for my next TV fix, I can’t help but get excited about the latest addition to Netflix’s original lineup – the Australian drama series “Territory.” Having grown up in the outback myself, I can relate to the raw, untamed beauty of the remote landscapes portrayed in the show. And let me tell you, nothing quite compares to the thrill of a well-crafted primetime soap opera set against the backdrop of a region where nearly everything can be lethal. With its compelling storylines and captivating characters, “Territory” promises to deliver an adrenaline rush like no other. So, fellow adventure seekers, join me in marking our calendars for this fall must-watch!
The show “Territory” isn’t ready for viewing just yet as its premiere on Netflix, scheduled for October 24th, is not yet upon us. However, Netflix has given us a sneak peek into some details about the series. If you’re curious about what the show is about, who stars in it, and how many episodes there will be when it becomes available, keep reading!
Here’s everything you need to know about Territory before it hits our screens in October!
Synopsis
In essence, “Territory” combines elements of shows like “Yellowstone,” “Dallas,” “Ozark,” and the 1980s “Dynasty,” blended with a dose of Western drama and a touch of family, crime, scandal, power, and soap opera themes. It’s as if you took the best aspects of these shows and brought them together on the range.
Here’s the show’s official synopsis via Netflix:
When the world’s largest cattle station is left without a clear successor, generational clashes threaten to tear the Lawson family apart. Sensing this once great dynasty is in decline, the outback’s most powerful factions – rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, Indigenous elders and billionaire miners – move in for the kill.
Starting in September 2023, the filming of this series commenced under the working title “Desert Kings.” As per a Netflix press statement, shooting took place on the ancestral lands of the Larrakia people, specifically in the Northern Territory, which encompasses Darwin and the Top End. Additionally, parts of Adelaide, South Australia, home to the Kaurna community, were utilized as filming sites. Furthermore, Kakadu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Tipperary Station were also incorporated into the production. Netflix proudly announces that “Territory” is one of the most extensive productions ever to be carried out in these remote Australian regions.

Among the stars of “Territory,” Anna Torv, an Australian actress recognized for her roles in “Fringe” on Netflix, “Mindhunter” on Netflix, and HBO’s “The Last of Us,” may be the most familiar face. As a passionate gamer, I’ve been thoroughly engrossed in this extraordinary show. created by Timothy Lee and Ben Davies, with Greg McLean at the helm as director, and writing credits shared among Timothy Lee, Kodie Bedford, Steven McGregor, and Michaeley O’Brien. Rob Gibson and Ian Collie executive produce alongside Davies and me. Starting the production process, we, the team, were thrilled to bring to life the seldom-explored realm of the Top End’s unique characters and narratives. And let me tell you, they haven’t disappointed!
Episode count
As a long-time fan of Netflix’s original programming, I’ve grown accustomed to binge-watching multiple seasons of my favorite shows in one sitting. So when I heard that the first season of “Territory” would only consist of six episodes, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.
The future may bring a second season for “Territory” if the show gains popularity on Netflix. If successful, they might produce more episodes or stick with the original six. It could also be designed as a limited series. We’ll need to watch the premiere to determine the answer.
