Amanda Seyfried has confirmed that a Mamma Mia! 3 movie is in the works.
In the year 2008, the musical film “Mamma Mia!” made its debut. This jukebox musical was steered by Phyllida Lloyd and featured Seyfried portraying Sophie Sheridan, while Meryl Streep graced the screen as Donna Sheridan. The sequel, titled “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, came out in 2018.
It’s been widely discussed that a third Mamma Mia! film might be produced, but Seyfried has recently verified that it will indeed take place.
What did Amanda Seyfried say about Mamma Mia! 3?
In a chat with Entertainment Tonight (ET), as seen on Reddit, Seyfried gave insights regarding the upcoming Mamma Mia! sequel.
“Mamma Mia! 3 is happening,” she said. “It’s going to happen in Greece, hopefully before 2038.”
At the moment, Seyfried has not begun shooting the film yet. However, she mentioned her preference for starting production during the summer of 2026, but emphasized that this is only based on her current schedule.
She mentioned that it would require quite a few people’s schedules coordinating, and the situation having to be just right,” [or] “She pointed out that it would necessitate a synchronization of many people’s calendars and a perfect scenario.
Mamma Mia! derives from a 1999 stage musical with the same title. In the initial film, Pierce Brosnan portrays Sam Carmichael, Colin Firth takes on Harry Bright, Stellan Skarsgård plays Bill Anderson, Julie Walters embodies Rosie Mulligan, and Dominic Cooper assumes the role of Sky Rymand.
Wowza! Stepping back into the world of ABBA’s “Mamma Mia!” feels like a delightful trip down memory lane. This time around, they’ve crafted an intriguing tale that’s part sequel, part prequel. In this flick, Lily James takes on the younger Donna role, while Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried reprise their beloved characters. The gang’s all back for more fun in “Here We Go Again,” including Firth, Cooper, Skarsgård, Brosnan, and Walters. But that’s not all! Newcomers like Jeremy Irvine, Hugh Skinner, Andy García, Josh Dylan, Alexa Davies, and others join the party too!
As of now, there’s no confirmed date for the premiere of Mamma Mia! 3, but you can enjoy the original Mamma Mia! film on Max right now. Alternatively, you can rent or buy Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again on various streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and others.
