As a seasoned gamer of both the literary world and the realm of heartwarming stories, let me tell you, Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick have truly outdone themselves with their latest masterpiece, “Make My Wish Come True.” Being a die-hard fan of their previous works, I was beyond thrilled when I got my hands on an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of this adorable sapphic Christmas romance.
Speaking of heartwarming lesbian literature, there’s nobody quite like Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick. So, when they announced their latest book, Make My Wish Come True, I couldn’t contain my excitement!
Although we’re still in October, it seems that some folks can’t help but feel the same level of enthusiasm for Christmas as others do for Halloween. No matter which team you support, nothing beats curling up with a good book to really get into the holiday mood.
Since Rachael and Alyson are not only married but also collaborate on their writing, I was already looking forward to their new book. Having enjoyed their previous work, “She Gets the Girl,” a delightful summer read, I was thrilled to get my hands on “Make My Wish Come True.
It’s a pleasure to express my gratitude to Simon & Schuster for providing me with an Advance Reader Copy (ARC). With this early access, I’ve had the opportunity to delve into the book ahead of schedule, and now, I’m excited to share my thoughts on it with everyone.
Make My Wish Come True is an adorable sapphic Christmas romance.
The story “Make My Wish Come True” centers around Arden James, an aspiring actor on the verge of landing the biggest role in her career. Initially, it appears this is a done deal, but due to some unfavorable media attention, she nearly misses out on the opportunity. To salvage her reputation, her agent devises a ruse – he claims that Arden has a girlfriend named Caroline at home and they’re planning to spend the holidays apart.
The director decides to offer a second chance to Arden, who must return home to confront the unresolved issues from her past and persuade Caroline to go on a series of staged dates during the holiday season. Initially, Caroline is reluctant due to the way Arden departed, but she eventually agrees under the condition that Arden allows her to write an article about her experiences. With some help from Arden’s agent, the pair embarks on their twelve fake Christmas dates.
Right off the bat, it’s evident that Arden and Caroline share an undeniable connection. Initially, their relationship appears to be a public relations stunt aimed at enhancing Arden’s image. Yet, as many can attest, their feelings are far from contrived and they soon find themselves harboring deeper emotions than mere friendship. With Barnwich being the Christmas heart of Pennsylvania, they embark on an array of charming dates, including hot chocolate competitions, sledding, and caroling sessions.
In addition, I found it delightful that Caroline was Jewish and she expressed her feelings about Hanukkah not receiving as much attention as Christmas in her town. Despite the story unfolding like a Hallmark Christmas film, “Make My Wish Come True” was an enjoyable read, ideal for the holiday season and those seeking a touch of sweet sapphic romance.
If you’ve never read books by Rachael Lippincott or Alyson Derrick, I highly recommend adding “Make My Wish Come True” to your reading list this holiday season.
