As a devoted gamer, I’ve had to sit this one out – my final home meet against Georgia. It’s Livvy Dunne we’re talking about here, the incredible gymnast from LSU, and she’s been hit by a knee injury that’s kept her off the mat for Senior Night. I’ve been wrestling with some knee issues myself, which is why I couldn’t compete. It’s tough not being able to perform on this special night, but I want to thank all the fans who’ve shown me so much love and support during these challenging times. As LSU presses on with our regular season, everyone’s concerns about my injury and what it means for my future are deeply felt. But remember, every gamer knows that sometimes you have to take a pause to come back stronger than ever. #LSUstrong #GoDunne
Read on to know about what happened to Dunne.
What happened to Livvy Dunne and is she injured?
Olympic gymnast Olivia Dunne from LSU has announced that a knee injury, specifically an “avulsion fracture” in her kneecap, will prevent her from participating in her last home meet. She shared this news via social media, stating she won’t be able to compete when LSU faces off against Georgia during their Senior Night event.
For several months now, fifth-year senior Dunne has been managing an injury. Her most recent competition took place on January 24th. This season, Dunne joined in early meets but has since been absent due to a knee issue. Previously, LSU was cautious about revealing details about her status. As mentioned earlier by head coach Jay Clark, her knee problem continues to be a concern. Sadly, the latest news reveals that Dunne will miss her final opportunity to compete at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
The gymnast openly showed her dismay, stating it was “heartbreaking” to skip the competition. However, even with this obstacle, Dunne has managed to keep a positive attitude. Lately, she was honored as the Grand Marshal for the Endymion Parade during Mardi Gras. (via The Spun)
LSU concludes its regular season with a game against Auburn, followed by the SEC Championships on March 22. As for the NCAA Regionals, they start on April 2, but it’s unclear at this point whether Dunne will be well enough to join in.
