Lionel Messi is collaborating with Turkish artist Refik Anadol on a unique artwork that uses AI technology. This artwork, showcased in two segments, is set for auction at Christie’s New York on June 11th. The first part of the artwork depicts Messi’s favorite goal, while the second part offers an AI-created interpretation of the game’s associated moments, using information from millions of data points connected to the match.

Throughout a brilliant 20-year career, the Argentine football player scored more than 800 goals for various teams including FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain F.C., Inter Miami C.F., and Argentina’s national squad.

Picking only one goal among all my favorites is extremely challenging because each one holds its own significance, and some carry deep emotional value or remind me of unforgettable moments,” Messi stated recently. “However, selecting a single favorite for the first time to move forward with this extraordinary project makes it worthwhile.

This project is associated with the “A Goal in Life” program, led jointly by the Inter Miami CF Foundation along with UNICEF. Proceeds from the auction aim to broaden opportunities for high-quality educational resources in five different nations throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Anadol referred to the collaboration as an exceptional privilege, and a chance to “connect” the emotional impact of sports with the future of artistic expression. A trailblazer in the digital realm, this artist is renowned for converting enormous data sets into captivating art pieces. Later on in 2023, he will premiere DATALAND – the world’s inaugural AI art museum – right here in Los Angeles.
