As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share the news: after years of anticipation, the comic book saga BRZRKR, co-created by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt, has secured a director for its long-awaited film adaptation! This exciting development was recently reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Who is directing BRZRKR?
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Justin Lin, who has directed multiple installments of the Fast & Furious series, as well as 2016’s Star Trek Beyond and an upcoming drama titled Last Days, is set to direct a Netflix adaptation of a comic book.
As a passionate admirer, I was initially ready to assign myself only a one-third chance of directing this movie myself. However, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll not only be starring in the film but also producing it! This remarkable venture will be jointly produced by Stephen Christy for Boom! Studios, Stephen Hamel for Company Films, Ross Richie, and Justin Lin, who will produce via his Perfect Storm banner. I can hardly wait to embark on this exciting journey!
The most recent details regarding the film reveal that Mattson Tomlin, who co-authored The Batman Part II, penned the script. This movie is characterized as a gruesome and epic tale spanning 80,000 years, following an immortal warrior’s relentless journey through time. Known merely as ‘B’, this being is both mortal and divine, driven by a compulsion to violence that threatens his sanity. After centuries of wandering, B may have discovered sanctuary — serving the U.S. government in combat, taking on battles too lethal and perilous for others. In return, B will be granted the one thing he yearns for — answers about his endless, blood-drenched existence … and a means to bring it to an end.
Originally penned by Reeves and Kindt in 2021, this comic follows the tale of an immortal fighter called Berzerker, who battles across various time periods. Debuting as a 12-issue limited series starting from March 2021, the story initially garnered significant backing on Kickstarter, raking in over $1.4 million on the popular crowdfunding platform.
Following its debut, multiple versions of the project have been unveiled, such as the upcoming Netflix movie and a two-season anime series produced by Production I.G. However, no specific launch dates for these projects have been disclosed yet.
2024 saw “The Book of Elsewhere,” a comic-inspired novel penned by authors China Mieville and Reeves, climbing to the top of The New York Times’ best-seller list.
