
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that James Gunn recently posted a behind-the-scenes photo commemorating The Engineer, a character set to appear in the upcoming Superman movie. In his social media post, he praised María Gabriela De Faría’s portrayal of this character and gave credit to creators Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch. Excitingly, more information about the cast, plot, and ties between Superman and the DCU are emerging.

James Gunn, director of Superman, shared an image of María Gabriela De Faría dressed as her Engineer character, sprawled out on a stadium field. In the caption, he wrote, “Happy Anniversary to the Engineer, brought to life by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, brilliantly portrayed by canine-like human @thefaria in Superman this July!

In a new universe for DC comics, the first live-action movie is centered around Superman. Alongside him, you’ll find characters like Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, and Lex Luthor. Additionally, this film introduces Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, Guy Gardner, and The Engineer. There are whispers that Supergirl, portrayed by Milly Alcock, could make an appearance before starring in her standalone film titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
In its initial 24-hour run, the Superman teaser trailer garnered a record-breaking 250 million views as the most-watched DC and Warner Bros. trailer ever released. Prior to the movie’s debut, Gunn had been sharing various promotional content on social media platforms.
The main characters are: David Corenswet playing Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult assuming the role of Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced in the role of Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard. Additionally, Krypto the Superdog will make an appearance in this movie.
Superman is scheduled to come out in theaters on July 11, 2025.
