Is NewJeans Going on a Break? ADOR statement explained

As a dedicated fan of K-pop and NewJeans in particular, I have been following their meteoric rise to fame since their debut in 2022 with “Attention.” Their energy, charisma, and unique sound quickly captured my heart and the hearts of millions around the world. I’ve eagerly awaited every new release, attended their fan meetings, and even learned a few dance moves from their choreographies.

As a long-time fan of K-pop and NewJeans in particular, I’ve been keeping up with their latest developments with great interest. The recent news about their upcoming break and the plagiarism allegations against their new song “Bubblegum” came as a surprise.

I discovered NewJeans back in 2022 when their infectious hit track “Attention” took the world by storm. Since then, they’ve kept dropping new music – two extended plays and three single albums have joined my playlist. In 2024, this Billboard Award-winning girl group surprised us once again with not one but two single albums – How Sweet and Supernatural.

On June 26 and 27, NewJeans hosted their fan meeting at Tokyo Dome following their hit releases. During this event, they showcased more than sixteen tunes and displayed each member’s unique skills through solo acts.

What did ADOR say about NewJeans’ break?

According to NewJeans’ label ADOR, the K-pop newcomers will momentarily pause their activities after an exhausting promotional phase. They expressed, “The NewJeans members have given their all to deliver exceptional performances and reach new milestones amidst various challenges.”

Due to this, they will be taking a much-needed break before returning with new projects for their fans to enjoy. Fear not, as we’ll provide you with intriguing content and news during their absence. Stay tuned!

As a gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on the latest news in the K-pop scene, and I was surprised to hear the plagiarism allegations against NewJeens’ new song “Bubblegum.” But don’t worry, ADOR, the label behind NewJeans, has addressed these concerns. They’ve brought in two well-known musicologists from overseas to analyze the similarities between “Bubblegum” and the Shakatak song that some claim was copied. According to their statement, both songs do share a few chord progressions, but the musicologists delved deeper into the nuances of each piece, explaining how these commonalities don’t diminish the originality of “Bubblegum.”

“ADOR pointed out that the songs ‘Bubble Gum’ and ‘Easier Said Than Done’ have distinct differences. The chords for ‘Bubble Gum’ are D Major9 repeated twice, followed by C# minor7 and F# minor7. In contrast, ‘Easier Said Than Done’ has a different beat per minute (BPM) and overall mood and rhythm. We disagreed with the allegations made against us for various reasons. If the claimant intends to continue this matter, they must present substantial evidence.”

Thank you, ADOR.
We love you NewJeans.

Fans are divided over NewJeans’ current break from releasing new music due to the ongoing dispute between their label HYBE and its sub-label ADOR. Some think this pause is essential for the group members’ mental health, while others worry that a brief hiatus might increase fan anxiety during the legal battles between the companies.
