As a long-time fan of Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper graphic novel series, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming third season on Netflix. Having read and re-read the books multiple times, I can’t help but reminisce about the profound impact they’ve had on me as a queer person.
After a respectable delay since its successful first season, “Heartstopper” Season 2 made its debut on Netflix in August 2023. This installment continued the tale of Charlie and Nick, as well as their remarkable friends, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating more stories in “Heartstopper” Season 3.
The Netflix series, inspired by Alice Oseman’s popular graphic novel collection, quickly gained global acclaim. This success can be attributed in part to the dedicated fan base both online and off, as well as the commercial success of Oseman’s best-selling books.
It’s good news that Netflix seems committed to continuing the production of “Heartstopper” for a third season. Here’s what we currently know about it!
Heartstopper returns in October 2024
In May, Netflix revealed that the third season of “Heartstopper” is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 3, 2024. Unlike some of its other shows, the entirety of season 3 will drop simultaneously, consisting of eight episodes as per the series’ tradition.

In the brief glance at the image above, Charlie finds it challenging to express his love to Nick. It’s likely that Nick feels the same way, but it’s understandable for Charlie to be anxious about it!
Season 3 cast
In the third season, the main cast is predicted to experience only minor changes. The vast majority of the principal, secondary, and recurring actors are anticipated to reprise their roles. Kit Connor and Joe Locke, who portray Nick and Charlie respectively, are confirmed to return. Additionally, the rest of the young ensemble cast is expected to be present. Various other characters will likely make appearances in supporting or guest capacities.

In March 2024, Olivia Colman shared with Forbes magazine that she wouldn’t be able to join Heartstopper for its third season. She had brought Sarah Nelson, Nick’s mom, to life in an exceptional way and would be sorely missed. “I couldn’t make it for season three,” she expressed her regret. “I couldn’t find the time. I feel terrible about that.” She reflected, “It was part of one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve ever had.”
In the second-to-last episode of season 2, Ben apologizes to Charlie for his past behavior but Charlie refuses to forgive him. Ben then announces his decision to leave, sparking speculation among fans about whether Sebastian Croft would be exiting the series after this season. Netflix confirmed in August 2023 that Croft would indeed be departing, with Oseman expressing her support: “I believe he’ll achieve great things, and I’ll be proudly rooting for him from the audience.”
Furthermore, some previously introduced actors could rejoin the series for Season 3.

What to expect from season 3
Netflix has shared a summary for the upcoming season, and as expected, it seems full of charm and emotion.
Charlie would like to tell Nick that he loves him. Nick also has something important to say to Charlie. As the summer holiday ends and the months race on, the friends begin to realise that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges. As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan.
As a big fan of “Heartstopper,” I’m thrilled to share that according to Vulture, the second season of this amazing show adapted from Alice Oseman’s work in “Heartstopper, Volume 3.” The creator-writer even shared that there were new storylines added in season 2 that weren’t part of the book. Based on this information and the synopsis for season 3, it seems that the upcoming installment will be based on “Heartstopper, Volume 4.”
The “Heartstopper” graphic novel series isn’t finished yet – there’s at least one more volume, Volume 6, still in the works. Originally planned as the last book, Volume 5 (released December 2023) will now have a sequel. No release date has been announced for Volume 6, but creator Alice Oseman has been providing updates on her social media about its production. Here’s hoping this means more seasons for the Netflix adaptation!

Season 2 ending explained
In the final episode of season 2, Charlie is torn between sending a “I love you” text to Nick for the first time or not. Nick was on the verge of expressing his feelings to Charlie in person before being interrupted by his mother’s unexpected return home. For those who have read the books, the outcome may be known, but for others, the suspense lingers: Will Charlie hit send?
In other places, Elle is all set to join the Lambert Art School following the selection of her artwork for display and securing a desirable position there. Consequently, Tao intends to maintain their relationship given that they have formally labeled it as boyfriend-girlfriend. Simultaneously, Tara and Darcy grow more intimate with heartfelt declarations of love and insights into Darcy’s domestic life. Lastly, Isaac appears receptive to the idea of identifying as asexual and aromantic.
Fans are eagerly anticipating many exciting things in the upcoming third season of Heartstopper. Can’t wait myself!
