As a long-time fan of the Fatal Fury series, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia seeing Gato announced as a playable character for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves! Back in 1999, when I first laid eyes on him in Mark of the Wolves, little did I know that this shadowy martial artist would become one of my favorites. Now, here we are, nearly three decades later, and Gato is back for another round.
City of the Wolves,” their latest fighting game. This is confirmed through a fresh trailer.
Who is Gato in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves?
Cat first appeared in the Fatal Fury series in 1999’s Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves. In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, this formidable martial artist enters the KOF tournament with a mission to avenge his father, Gao. Here is the official description for Cat:
A man, named Gato, is resolved to avenge himself against his father, Gao, who had nearly blinded him in a past competition. After a brutal assault, Gato has regained most of his vision, but he finds that this very ability slows down his movements. Instead of relying on sight, he now chooses to fight in total darkness. Upon hearing about the upcoming King of Fighters tournament, the vengeful Gato steps back into the arena, with only one target in mind – his father.
Cat’s voice will be provided by Yuma Yamaguchi (Japanese) and Cory Yee (English). Over the years, Yee has lent his talents to various video games and TV shows, including Genshin Impact, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, and many others.
Back in 2022, SNK initially unveiled what we now know as “Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves,” though it was only partially titled at the time. It wasn’t until this year that the full title was officially revealed, giving us a glimpse of a battle between familiar faces Rock Howard and Terry Bogard. Since then, additional playable characters like Vox Reaper, Billy Kane, and B. Jenet have been announced.
The video game titled “Fatal Fury: City of Wolves” is set to debut on April 24, 2025, and can be played on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you’re eager to secure a Special Edition of the game, priced at $59.99, preorders are currently being accepted. The Special Edition package comes with the main game, Season Pass 1 (featuring five DLC characters), an exclusive Terry costume from Fatal Fury 2, and early access three days before the official launch date (April 21, 2025).
