As a long-time fan of spy thrillers who’s spent countless hours binge-watching James Bond and Mission: Impossible movies, I can confidently say that The Recruit has quickly become one of my favorite shows. The cliffhanger ending of season 1 had me on the edge of my seat, eagerly waiting for the next installment.
We have a new update about The Recruit season 2 to share! While The Recruit season 2 has reportedly wrapped both production and post-production, fans are still waiting for a release date. However, when the series does finally make its return on our watch lists, there will be a little bit less to love in the second season.
As per the listing on the Writers Guild of America West directory, the upcoming season 2 of The Recruit will consist of just six episodes. This is a decrease from the eight episodes in season 1, indicating a reduction by two episodes. The possible reason for this decrease could be the writers’ strike that occurred in 2023, which had a significant impact on the industry and likely affected the production timeline, leading to fewer episodes being produced. Delays and smaller episode counts are direct consequences of the strike.
Actor Noah Centineo, famous for his role in Netflix’s hit teen rom-com trilogy “To All the Boys“, takes on a new challenge as Owen Hendricks, an awkward CIA lawyer, in the spy thriller “The Recruit“. In this movie, Owen finds himself in a precarious predicament involving a former CIA asset. The series, titled “The Recruit,” quickly gathered attention, with 52.3 million hours watched in its initial days. This figure swelled to an impressive 95.59 million hours viewed during its first full week of release over the holiday season. These outstanding viewership numbers left no doubt in Netflix’s mind that a renewal was necessary for “The Recruit.
2022 saw Netflix series achieve unprecedented popularity, boosted by the debuts of “Bridgerton” season 2, “Stranger Things” season 4, and “Wednesday,” among others. Collectively, viewers watched these shows for hundreds of millions of hours. With “The Recruit” being a holiday hit, it was only natural that a second season would follow.
Upon Netflix confirming a second season for the series, its creator and head writer, Alexi Hawley, expressed his enthusiasm for the continuation of Owen Hendricks’ narrative, conveying this to TUDUM.

Production on season 2 wrapped in March 2024
According to an update from Deadline, filming for the second season is now underway in Vancouver, and additional shooting will be done in Seoul, South Korea.
As reported by What’s on Netflix, the principal filming for The Recruit season 2 kicked off on January 4, 2024, and concluded on March 21, 2024. However, neither the production team of The Recruit nor Netflix have confirmed these dates yet.
In contrast to The Night Agent’s second season, there was more time for pre-production on The Recruit’s second season before the WGA strike began in May 2023. However, even though the writers’ strike has ended, it’s plausible that the scripts were completed earlier. Now, with the actors strike over, the cast and crew are gearing up to commence filming for the second season.
The season 2 release date hasn’t been announced yet
Unfortunately, we don’t have an exact release date for season 2 of “The Recruit” yet. It seems that it won’t be available on Netflix immediately. Although the first season premiered in December 2022, it looks like season 2 won’t debut until late 2024 at the earliest. The renewal announcement from Netflix initially suggested a 2024 release, but delays caused by writers’ and actors’ strikes have pushed back the production schedule.
It appears that The Recruit season 2, as reported by Deadline, will not be among the new shows Netflix plans to release in 2024. Instead, it’s slated for a premiere in 2025.
It seems highly unlikely that The Recruit season 2 won’t premiere on Netflix before mid or late 2025. In fact, early 2025 might just be the perfect timing for its release, perhaps even on New Year’s Day. What a fantastic way to kick off the new year with a brand-new season, don’t you think?

In the sequel of “The Recruit,” Noah Centineo is set to reprise his role as the charming CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks, with the rest of the main cast expected to join him. On December 19th, according to TVLine’s report, actor Teo Yoo has been brought onto the show. He will portray Jang Kyun, a cunning and determined South Korean NIS agent known for his hidden wit and humor, who is prepared to go to great lengths to safeguard those he cherishes.
While specifics about the second season’s storyline are still vague, the introduction of Yoo’s character provides us with some insight. We can expect Owen to find himself embroiled in a perilous espionage predicament within South Korea, leading us to surmise that Yoo will play a role in these events somehow.
On January 25th, Netflix revealed that nine new actors have joined the cast of Season 2 in a recurring capacity. It was further confirmed by Deadline that Kaylah Zander (Amelia), Maddie Hasson (Nichka), and Angel Parker (Dawn) were promoted from recurring roles to series regulars for the second season, having previously appeared in Season 1. Additionally, Daniel Quincy Annoh (Terence), Jesse Collins (Dodge), and Nathan Fillion (CIA Director Alton West) will also appear in multiple episodes of Season 2.

At the culmination of the first season of The Recruit, it’s revealed that Owen is abducted by a woman he previously met at a bar – who unexpectedly turns out to be Karolina, Max’s daughter. In an intriguing twist, Karolina has Owen bound, and there are indications she may have fatally shot her estranged mother, Max.
As we dive into season two, I’m left pondering the unknowns surrounding Max’s destiny, what’s been going on with Karolina, and how these mysteries will intertwine with Owen’s journey ahead. I can’t help but wonder why Karolina has been at odds with her mother and what transpired between them. I’m eager to uncover the reasons behind her actions and mend any rifts in their relationship.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reflect on the harrowing encounters Owen had in season 1, which at times seemed like a dance with death. And as we dive into season 2, it feels like the rollercoaster ride for this CIA lawyer isn’t slowing down anytime soon! Centineo and Hawley have been tight-lipped about what Season 2 holds in store, but rest assured, I’ll be on the lookout for any hints or teasers they might drop before it hits our screens.
