As a long-time fan who has witnessed Dave Bautista‘s transformation from WWE superstar to beloved Marvel character and now a versatile actor, I am thrilled to see him branching out into romantic comedies! It’s not every day we get to see a 6-foot-plus, tattooed, musclebound action star trying his hand at love stories. His unique charm and charisma make him an intriguing choice for these roles, and I can’t wait to see him bring his own brand of comedy to the rom-com genre.
Dave Bautista says he now has multiple rom-com movies in the works.
Over time, Bautista has taken on leading roles in various science fiction and action films, particularly recognized for portraying Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy series. Upcoming projects include Dune: Part Two, My Spy: The Eternal City, The Killer’s Game in 2024, and he recently premiered his latest film, The Last Showgirl, at the Toronto International Film Festival.
In January 2023, Bautista shared with Page Six his dream of acting in a romantic comedy. Yet, no such opportunities had been presented to him as of then.
Bautista expressed, “I’m not your usual romantic comedy protagonist. I’ve got a bit of roughness to me. Sometimes, when I look in the mirror, I wonder if there’s something about me that isn’t appealing enough to play those roles. I ask myself, am I too unattractive? Is it something in my appearance or demeanor that keeps me from these types of parts?
At The Hollywood Reporter’s premiere event for The Killer’s Game, Bautista shared that he “began receiving numerous phone calls” following the publication of his previous remarks.

He went on to say, “As soon as I made that statement, the phone started ringing non-stop. We’ve got a few projects in the pipeline that are genuinely hilarious.” Furthermore, he mentioned that his journey was turning out to be more like a traditional romantic comedy, not an action-romantic one, but a full-blown romantic comedy.
Bautista expressed his aspiration that his rising fame could enable him to produce more indie films in the upcoming years.
“The movies I adore are these ones. However, the quickest way to achieve that is by becoming a commodity; if you’re a well-known actor, you’re a commodity. Essentially, people are more inclined to pay attention to you and give you their time if you can offer something valuable, and as a big star, you offer something valuable. Therefore, I’m aiming to expand my fame and become prominent enough as a star so that I can create smaller independent films.
