Danny Burstein hails from Mt. Kisco, New York, born on June 16, 1964. During his formative years, he resided in New York City. A unique upbringing awaited him as his parents parted ways when he was only two months old. His mother, Virginia (Vega), a talented painter, and his stepfather, Harvey Burstein, a professor of Greek philosophy, took on the role of raising Danny.

During his high school years, Burstein participated in local theater productions and summer theater in New Hampshire, earning a total of $200 for the entire season. His high school was the High School of Performing Arts.

He earned his degree from Queens College in New York City, and while there, he secured his initial professional acting role as a member of the chorus for “The Music Man” at The Muny in St. Louis.

In the year 1990, he completed his Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting from the graduate school at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). During his time at UCSD, he was involved in a performance of Macbeth at the La Jolla Playhouse.

Danny Burstein has showcased his talent on Broadway twenty times, securing eight nominations for the Tony Award. Over the years, he has played a diverse range of roles such as in A Little Hotel on the Side (1992), The Seagull’s character Yakov (1992-93), and both Saint Joan and Three Men on a Horse (both 1993). He also starred as Paul in Company (1995) and the First Officer William Murdoch in Titanic (1997-99).

Apart from that, he has taken on various leading roles including Aldolpho in The Drowsy Chaperone (from 2006 to 2007), Luther Billis in South Pacific (between 2008 and 2010), Taxi Driver in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (from 2010 to 2011), Tokio in Golden Boy (during 2012-2013), Max in The Snow Geese by Sharr White (in 2013), Herr Schultz in the revival of Cabaret (from 2014 to 2015), and Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof (between 2015 and 2016).

Danny Burstein has acted in various films such as Duane Incarnate (2004), Transamerica (2005), Deception (2008), Nor’easter (2013), Trust, Greed, Bullets and Bourbon (2013), American Milkshake (2013), Autumn Whispers (2013), Affluenza (2014), Blackhat (2015), directed by Michael Mann, The Family Fang (2015) starring Nicole Kidman and helmed by Jason Bateman, Construction (2015), Indignation (2016), penned and directed by James Schamus, and a series called The Sounding, produced by Catherine Eaton.

Personal Life

Danny Burstein wed actress Rebecca Luker in June 2000, but she tragically passed away on December 23, 2020. He has two sons, Alexander and Zachary, from a previous marriage, and currently lives in Morningside Heights, Manhattan.
