New God Of War Spin-Off Game Still A Long Way Off, According To Insiders

As a diehard fan, I’ve heard through the grapevine that the rumored God of War spin-off isn’t expected to drop until next year.

A Little Different God Of War

There’s been buzz for quite some time now about a spin-off from the acclaimed God of War game series. This upcoming title, rumored to offer a distinct twist on the main storyline, is speculated to unfold in the backdrop of ancient Greece. As of now, sources close to the project have hinted that it could be a 2.5D Metroidvania style game, offering a fresh angle on the world. The protagonist of this spin-off remains a topic of debate. Notable figure Jeff Grubb, an author and leaker with a good track record, has suggested that we might control a young version of Kratos. However, it’s uncertain whether this young character is actually Kratos himself or his son Atreus. Additionally, there have been whispers that the protagonist could potentially be Deimos, Kratos’ brother.

Delays Because Of Voice Acting?

It’s been officially revealed that the release of the game has been pushed back to 2026. Grubb hinted at internal factors as the cause. There are rumors circulating about the delay, suggesting it might be because they aim to incorporate voice acting in the game, potentially influenced by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA voice actor strike. The strike, led by the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, has impacted numerous companies and studios, such as Disney, Activision, EA, Epic Games, Take-Two (which encompasses Rockstar, Zynga, and 2K), among others.

Fans Are Sceptical

In essence, fans were taken aback by the news of the game’s delay since it was already assumed that it wouldn’t be released this year. Nevertheless, the idea behind the game is generally well-received, but the choice of playable character seems to spark debate among players.

Interestingly, while most fans consider Jeff Grubb reliable, there are some voices of skepticism about the authenticity of the leaks and broader statements he’s made.

Players were surprised by the game delay since they thought it wouldn’t come out this year anyway. They generally like the game concept, but there’s disagreement about the character to be played. Some are questioning the truthfulness of information leaked by Jeff Grubb.

What do you think? How will a 2.5D Metroidvania spin-off fare against Rockstar’s GTA 6?
