Adi Shankar, known for producing TV versions of Devil May Cry and Castlevania, is now set to work on Duke Nukem. Shankar has secured the rights to create a Duke Nukem adaptation from game publisher Gearbox Entertainment and will be in charge of the creative direction for this project.
Adi Shankar recently shared with Esquire magazine that he now holds the rights for adapting the Duke Nukem series. He emphasized that this isn’t about the gaming rights, but rather, he acquired it from Gearbox. He offered a sneak peek into his plans for the Duke Nukem adaptation, stressing that there will be minimal corporate intervention involved.
Duke Nukem was more than just a game; it was a symbol, an expression of rebellion. Yet, when the game exploded in popularity, there were those who saw it as a business opportunity, trying to capitalize on its brand without understanding its essence – which is not corporate-friendly. The moment a corporation takes over Duke Nukem, it loses its authenticity and becomes something else entirely. I have no intention of allowing anyone to dictate the creative direction of this project.
