List of every major character who dies in The Waterfront

In the first season of Netflix’s series “The Waterfront,” many crucial characters experience tragic deaths in intense showdowns, significantly altering the political landscape of the small coastal town. Let’s examine each significant demise that causes a ripple effect throughout The Waterfront’s debut season.

Grady and his henchmen

In the climax of “The Waterfront,” the demise of character Grady (played by Topher Grace), along with his associates, could be one of the most gratifying scenes in the thriller genre. After suffering a massive financial loss from his heroin business worth millions, an individual described as narcissistic and sociopathic, Grady, resorted to kidnapping Harlan’s daughter Bree in retaliation.

In a fitting location for Harlan, who takes great pride in his seafaring skills, the decisive showdown between Grady, his associates, and the Buckleys unfolds smack dab in the heart of the ocean.

Cane and Shawn manage to conceal themselves within Harlan’s watercraft and strategically attack Grady and his allies when the opportunity arises. Despite an unsuccessful effort to negotiate a truce, the conflict between the gangs concludes with Cane fatally shooting Grady as he plummets into the sea.

Marcus

As a gamer, I found myself on the brink of apprehending the elusive Buckleys when Agent Marcus Sanchez met an untimely end. Little did I know that Bree, the tormented daughter of this notorious family, had extended a helping hand, under the misguided belief that it would lead to the capture of Cane, while sparing Harlan and Belle from the clutches of justice.

However, upon understanding that both his parents might face imprisonment, she altered her strategy. Initially, Marcus was a former drug addict, and Bree had intended to acquire heroin for him. Her idea was to capture photos of Marcus using drugs, intending to use these images as blackmail. Unfortunately, this scheme fell apart when the DEA agent overdosed in her presence, causing her immense fear and guilt.

Clyde Porter aka Owen

In a situation of self-defense, Harlan ended up taking the life of Clyde Porter, who was also known as Owen. This event, unfortunately, coincided with the removal of a corrupt sheriff, which opened up opportunities for the Buckley family to expand their burgeoning drug operations in an unforeseen manner.

Owen met his end in his garage when Harlan went there for business. Harlow, head of the Buckley family, desired the sheriff out of his path. This provided him an opportunity to negotiate with Grady personally. Unfortunately, their meeting turned violent swiftly. In the end, Harlan ended up stabbing Owen in self-defense.

Hoyt Piper

Today marks the unfortunate demise of Hoyt Piper, an early casualty in the series. He served as a liaison between Grady and Owen, orchestrating drug operations in Havenport. Unfortunately for him, once Owen discovered he could cut out the middleman and have the Buckleys work directly under him, Hoyt paid the ultimate price – his life.
