Wendy Williams has openly stated that she is not involved in the $250 million lawsuit initiated by her former spouse, Kevin Hunter.
The lawsuit is aimed at Sabrina Morrissey, her court-assigned guardian, and Judge Lisa Sokoloff, as stated by Williams in an interview with TMZ on June 19, 2025. In this conversation, she expressed her surprise about the legal action and made it clear that she has no desire for him to be involved in her life in such a capacity, stating emphatically, “I’m done with divorce forever.
The lawsuit, submitted to a federal court in New York on June 17, aims for compensatory damages, freedom from alleged forced confinement (Williams), unsealing of her case records, and removal of Morrissey as her guardian. The document lists 48 defendants, which include Wells Fargo and Williams’ assisted living facility. Additionally, the complaint states that Hunter desires to be appointed as Williams’ legal representative (next friend), enabling him to act on her behalf in legal proceedings.
According to People, Williams’ lawyer, Joe Tacopina, stated that she was “completely unaware” of the filing and is “not pleased about it.” He further explained that the person has no right to include her name in the lawsuit and hasn’t been given any authorization by Williams. In other words, they don’t require his assistance if they decide to file a lawsuit.
LaShawn Thomas, representing Hunter, admitted that Williams wasn’t involved in the court case. He explained, “Regrettably, she doesn’t possess legal knowledge about all the proof that backs up our argument that she shouldn’t be compelled to endure this guardianship.
After two decades with Hunter, Williams went through a divorce. In the year 2022, a guardianship order was imposed upon him by the court. His medical professionals announced in February 2024 that he suffered from primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia.
Regardless of his diagnosis, Williams made an appearance on The Breakfast Club in January 2024 and expressed, “I may not be cognitively impaired, but I feel as if I’m living in a confinement.
