Days of Thunder 2: Tom Cruise Sequel Gets Exciting Update

Days of Thunder 2 has received an exciting update.

1990’s sports drama movie titled “Days of Thunder” was directed by Tony Scott. In this film, Tom Cruise portrays a race car driver named Cole Trickle, aiming to establish his reputation in NASCAR. Notable actors like Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Nicole Kidman, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly, and Cary Elwes also contribute to the cast.

Back in November 2024, word got around that I was having chats with Paramount about a possible Days of Thunder 2. But

What is the Days of Thunder 2 update?

Jeff Gordon, a longtime acquaintance of Cruise, confirms that the project is indeed progressing and heading forward without any doubts.

Last year, Gordon shared via Road & Track that he was on set for Mission: Impossible and later attended its premiere. Upon seeing him, Cruise announced, “We’re doing it! We’re making Days of Thunder 2!” I’m excited about the idea, and so is Rick Hendrick. Hendrick Motorsports had a significant part in the original Days of Thunder, and they would be thrilled to contribute to this sequel as well.

Gordon stated, “Let’s examine elements that might boost the game. Consider how Days of Thunder influenced NASCAR in the ’90s. I believe it could have a similar impact if we managed to recreate a similar scenario.

No other details about the project are available at this time.

In the high-speed environment of NASCAR racing, a fierce rivalry ignites between fresh talent Cole Trickle (played by Cruise) and seasoned driver Rowdy Burns (portrayed by Rooker). After sustaining injuries in separate races, they transition from bitter adversaries to close friends. As Cole recovers emotionally from a romantic relationship with neurosurgeon Dr. Claire Lewicki (Kidman), while Rowdy continues to recover from his injuries, Cole decides to compete using Rowdy’s car in the Daytona 500 against unscrupulous newcomer Russ Wheeler (Elwes).
