Donkey Kong Bananza supports 2 player co-op and GameShare locally and online

In the game “Donkey Kong Bananza,” you’ll encounter two main characters: DK and Pauline. Nintendo allows you to embark on this adventure together, as they’ve made it possible for players to enjoy the experience with a friend. This multiplayer functionality extends to both local and online play, leveraging the GameShare feature of the upcoming Switch 2 console.

During today’s special Nintendo Direct event, the cooperative play aspects of Donkey Kong Bananza were highlighted. In this mode, one player assumes control over Donkey Kong, while another takes charge of Pauline. Donkey Kong explores the environment and breaks down obstacles, whereas Pauline can vocalize to produce rocky projectiles for assistance. Additionally, Pauline has the ability to absorb nearby objects and transform her speech into that material. A demonstration in the Direct showed Pauline changing her words from rocks to gold, making them more potent.

In Donkey Kong Bananza, there are several methods for multiplayer co-op play. If you and your friend each own the game, you can initiate co-op sessions either locally or remotely. If only one of you owns the game, you can leverage Nintendo Switch 2’s GameShare feature to allow your buddy to join in. Remarkably, this works even if you’re using an older Switch model, as Donkey Kong Bananza hasn’t been released on that platform yet. GameShare facilitates co-op play online for Switch 2 users, provided both players are engaged in a GameChat session simultaneously.

During the recent Direct presentation, we gained more insight into the collaboration between Donkey Kong and Pauline. This event also unveiled new transformations for our title character. The upcoming game, Donkey Kong Bananza, will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 starting from July 17th next month.
