Superman Star Rachel Brosnahan Slams Actors Criticizing Their Own Superhero Movies

As a passionate gamer speaking up, I’ve recently seen Rachel Brosnahan, known for her role as Superman’s mom, call out actors who dive into superhero movie roles but then turn around to criticize them later on. Interestingly enough, I’m about to venture into the superhero universe myself, starring in an upcoming DC Universe flick directed by James Gunn. In this film, I’ll be portraying Lois Lane, a Daily Planet reporter with a soft spot for Clark Kent – you know, Superman’s love interest!

Rachel Brosnahan calls out actors bashing their own superhero movies

Recently, I had the pleasure of chatting with the fabulous Amanda Seyfried for Interview Magazine, where we delved into my journey working on the iconic Superman series. It was a true delight!

During their chat, Seyfried observed that Brosnahan clicked well with her Superman co-star David Corenswet, hinting at their similar backgrounds and enthusiasm for movie roles like that. In turn, the actress from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel voiced disapproval towards actors who join superhero films but later criticize them unfairly.

Brosnahan commented, ‘It’s strange when people agree yet grumble about the outcome later.’ She continued, ‘There was a time when it was trendy to criticize superhero films and scoff at projects like these.’

Afterward, the actress from Courier expressed that artists have the liberty to decide if they want to star in superhero movies. Yet, she pointed out that they should firmly support their decisions.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice that Rachel Brosnahan’s recent comments appear to be aimed at a broader discussion within the industry. It seems some actors who have taken on roles in superhero films lately have later expressed discontent when their expectations weren’t met or when these movies fell short with audiences.

In 2024, Dakota Johnson starred in Sony’s Madame Web, but the movie ended up being both critically panned and a flop at the box office. More recently, she appears to have distanced herself from the film’s negative reception, stating that she wasn’t responsible for its failure. In her words to the Los Angeles Times, “Unfortunately, Madame Web initially began as one thing but transformed into something else. By then, I was simply going along with it.

Previously, during an interview with Bustle last year, she described working on the movie as a unique “experience.” However, she also expressed that she might not participate in anything similar in the future since she feels out of place in that environment.

Beyond this, Christian Bale, renowned for portraying Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, voiced criticism towards Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder where he appeared as Gorr the God Butcher. In a 2022 interview with GQ, Bale expressed his dissatisfaction by using the term “monotony,” suggesting that working on the film’s green screen set may have been repetitive for him.
