Previously this year, Sony terminated a multiplayer game project underway at Bend Studio. Currently, Sony is downsizing its workforce, with approximately 40 employees from Bend being let go. This amounts to around 30% of the studio’s total workforce.
The news about Sony’s layoffs originates from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg. As per his report, Bend Studio had recently started working on a new project following the cancellation of their previous undertaking, an as-yet-unannounced live-service game, which was called off in January.
The latest game from Bend Studio was Days Gone, which came out on PS4 back in 2019. This game has been upgraded for both PS5 and PC platforms more recently.
It’s uncertain what will become of Bend Studio’s upcoming game, as they have recently experienced layoffs, which is part of an ongoing pattern in the video game industry over several years.
