As a gamer immersed in The Long Dark’s Tales from the Far Territory: Part Six, I was thrilled to discover the new Safehouse Customization feature – absolutely free! Now, I can personalize and reorganize my beloved hideouts on Great Bear Island. But before diving into this creative endeavor, I must obtain the elusive Woodworking Tools, a scarce item that pops up at specific spots. Here are the places where I’ll need to scour for these valuable tools:
Here’s a suggestion:
Hint: To avoid knowing the specific spots ahead of time, explore Ash Canyon, Bleak Inlet, and the Zone of Contamination for Woodworking Tools. You can find the precise locations further down, accompanied by screenshots.
Ash Canyon
In my gaming adventure, I’d suggest heading first to the Woodworking Tools hidden in Miner’s Folly, nestled within Ash Canyon. This set catches my eye for a few reasons. For one, there’s a nearby Gold Mine that rewards you with a Technical Backpack, boosting your carry capacity by 5 kilograms, and Crampons to minimize sprains while climbing and delay falling through weak ice. Starting a new run with these three items is like being handed an advantage right off the bat!
Another bonus is the Ranger Stew recipe you can snag from the Foreman’s Retreat, perched atop the hill where I pick up the Woodworking Tools. But remember, to get this tasty treat, you’ll need the Tales from the Far Territory DLC. Happy gaming!
Bleak Inlet
In my gaming adventure, I stumbled upon some intriguing Woodworking Tools nestled at the Last Resort Cannery, a landmark that’s the shining star of Bleak Inlet. Upon reaching this location, I was faced with an obstacle course to conquer before entering the Cannery itself. First, I had to scale a rope and then jump onto a boat. The real challenge came next as I navigated my way through the second building of this environmental puzzle.
Climbing the stairs led me to the table where these tools sat, conveniently placed near a window. However, beware! Timberwolves are known to roam these parts, and they can make my gaming experience quite tricky. So, always have a strategy ready if these hostile creatures decide to cross paths with me in my game.
Zone of Contamination
In the area of contamination, you’ll find two collections of Woodworking Tools. The initial set is positioned on the table near the exit, which is on the second-to-last floor in the Concentrator building and directs you outside towards the Mountain Entrance of the Langston Mine. The second batch of tools can be found straight inside the Mountain Entrance of the Langston Mine, but accessing them requires the Mine Gate Key. You can obtain this key by progressing through the Buried Echoes Tale, a part of the Tales from the Far Territory DLC. Considering that you’ll walk past the first set of tools to reach the second one and the second set needs a key, it would be more convenient to pick up the first set.
Tips for Woodworking Tools
- Woodworking Tools weigh 1.5 kilograms. If you don’t want to carry them with you, grab multiple sets and leave them at the locations you wish to engage with Safehouse Customization.
- Woodworking Tools are required to craft a Furniture Work Bench, which itself is required to craft most of the in-game furniture items.
- You can craft some decorative items and small pieces of furniture with only the Woodworking Tools, such as a Coffee Table or some of the Carved Figures.
- There are four total sets of Woodworking Tools in The Long Dark, two are found in the base game, and two are found in the Tales From the Far Territory DLC in the Zone of Contamination region. If you do not own Tales From the Far Territory, there are only two sets available to you.
- While Woodworking Tools cannot be damaged or destroyed, they can be left behind and forgotten. Since there are only four in the world, take care not to drop them or leave them in places you won’t remember.
- If you aren’t sure which location you want to customize, try the Hunting Lodge in Broken Railroad, Milton House or Paradise Meadows Farm in Mountain Town, the Farmstead in Pleasant Valley, or the Mountaineer’s Hut in Timberwolf Mountain.
With a collection of trusty woodworking tools at my disposal, I’m ready to immerse myself in countless hours of personalizing my Safehouse. It’s time to transform one of my favorite nooks into a space truly mine. For more gaming insights, dive deeper into The Long Dark on Shacknews.
