The lineup for “The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping” is expanding, as the prequel film has successfully cast its President Snow character.
Who will play President Snow in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping?
The acclaimed actor Ralph Fiennes, who has earned an Oscar nomination, will step into the role of President Snow – a merciless dictator from the fictional country of Panem – in the forthcoming prequel. Previously, Donald Sutherland portrayed this character in the initial Hunger Games films, serving as the main adversary throughout the series.
Fiennes has built a reputation with many notable roles across his career, appearing in movies such as Schindler’s List, Conclave, In Bruges, The Hurt Locker, The Menu, The Grand Budapest Hotel, the Harry Potter series, the James Bond movies, and numerous others.
Producer Nina Jacobson expressed her excitement about casting Ralph Fiennes as President Snow in “The Hunger Games,” 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s arena entry. She mentioned that she had longed to collaborate with Ralph, who terrified her for life in Schindler’s List. It’s truly a pleasure to have him join the Hunger Games cast.
At the break of dawn in “Sunrise on the Reaping”, we find an illustrious ensemble headed by Joseph Zada portraying a younger version of Haymitch Abernathy, with Jesse Plemons taking on the role of a youthful Plutarch Heavensbee. Additionally, Whitney Peak is cast as Lenore Dove Baird, the romantic interest of our younger Haymitch.
Actor Kelvin Harrison Jr., known for his role as Mufasa, will additionally portray a youthful Beetee, a character previously played by Jeffrey Wright. It’s rumored that Glenn Close may join the upcoming film in some fashion. Maya Hawke and Lili Taylor are also set to appear in the movie, taking on younger versions of Wiress and Mags respectively.
On November 20, 2026, the movie “The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping” by Lionsgate is scheduled to hit theaters across the United States.
The upcoming Hunger Games prequel movie is being guided by director Francis Lawrence, who has previously worked on several installments of the series. Nina Jacobson, along with Brad Simpson, are responsible for its production, while Cameron MacConomy holds the position of executive producer.
Billy Ray is currently crafting the screenplay for “Sunrise at the Reaping.” Previously, he contributed to the script of the first Hunger Games film, which premiered in 2012, and garnered an Academy Award nomination for writing the 2013 film Captain Phillips.
