Oscars: Hulu Livestreaming Issues, Conan O’Brien Returning as Host Addressed by ABC

Rob Mills, responsible for directing the 2025 Oscars broadcast on ABC, is discussing some of the triumphs and tribulations from this year’s ceremony.

On the evening of March 2, 2027, the Academy Awards ceremony took place, with Conan O’Brien serving as the host. In this event, Anora received the prestigious Best Picture Award, Adrien Brody won the recognition for Best Actor, and Mikey Madison was honored with the Best Actress award.

What did ABC say about Hulu’s Oscars issues and Conan O’Brien?

For the first time, this year’s Oscars were broadcasted live on Hulu. Unfortunately, numerous subscribers encountered problems, including the livestream stopping when the ceremony ran 30 minutes past its allotted time. As a result, viewers watching the show live via Hulu missed out on finding out who won Best Actress and Best Picture awards.

In a conversation, Mills described the current circumstance as “regrettable” and predicted that next year would offer a more enriching experience.

Mills expressed that this issue isn’t something he’s familiar with, and it’s clear you’re disappointed about the show interruption for the audience – it’s truly unfortunate. I believe the most beneficial action is to learn from this incident and ensure it doesn’t happen again in the future. It’s not an uncommon issue in streaming platforms, and unfortunately, it may occur again. However, we’re making progress by adapting to our viewers’ preferences and meeting them where they are.

Across The Walt Disney Company, our unique strength lies in being both a broadcaster and a premium streaming service. We strive to ensure that wherever you choose to watch your favorite shows, it’s always accessible. This strategy generally works wonderfully, as demonstrated by Dancing With the Stars. We look forward to even more exceptional experiences next year.

As a huge fan, I must say that, being his debut year hosting the Oscars, I wholeheartedly believe Conan did an outstanding job.

Mills expressed, “We’d be thrilled if he could return, though I can’t say for sure if this is an official invitation. I truly hope he’s interested. It was a pleasure and an honor, and working with Jimmy Kimmel might be the only ‘methadone’ to fill that void if he couldn’t rejoin us.
