In a brand-new drama film, Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Emily Blunt are set to take the lead roles. This upcoming production is directed by the renowned Martin Scorsese.
Based on a recent article by Deadline, it appears that Johnson, DiCaprio, and Blunt will be featured in an upcoming Scorsese film. Several studios have shown interest in this project, with some already presenting bids, while others are swiftly preparing their offers.
In the upcoming film “The Smashing Machine,” duo Johnson and Blunt pitched their concept to Scorsese and DiCaprio. Together, the quartet recruited Nick Bilton for the task of penning the screenplay.
What will the new Martin Scorsese movie be about?
The movie will focus on a “ruthless Hawaiian crime boss” who is based on a real-life figure.
The movie narrative revolves around a tumultuous era on a tropical paradise island. During this time, an ambitious mob leader fought against rival criminal groups to take over the underworld of the Hawaiian islands. This was a violent conflict, reminiscent of what Scorsese portrayed in both Goodfellas and The Departed. In the 1960s and 70s Hawaii, this strong-willed and captivating mob boss ascended to construct the most powerful criminal empire on the islands, waging a fierce war against mainland corporations and competing syndicates while striving to protect his ancestral land. The story is based on the untold true account of a man who fought tenaciously to safeguard his homeland through a relentless pursuit of total power – sparking the last significant American mob tale, where the struggle for cultural preservation unfolds in an unexpected setting: paradise.
It’s unclear at this point what extent or type of roles Johnson, DiCaprio, and Blunt will play in the movie. They are all listed as producers for the film, along with Scorsese, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.
Previously, DiCaprio and Scorsese have collaborated numerous times, their latest project being “Killers of the Flower Moon” from 2023. On the other hand, Blunt made an appearance in “The Young Victoria,” produced by Scorsese in 2009, but Johnson has not had the opportunity to work with Scorsese until this time.
