Starfield meets Star Wars: Can this mod beat the original?

As someone who has eagerly awaited the release of Starfield for years, I must say that my initial excitement was somewhat dampened by the game’s lackluster performance upon launch. The slow pacing, technical issues, and at times weak dialogues left me yearning for more. However, just as a phoenix rises from its ashes, so too has Starfield found new life through the modding community.

Starfield was envisioned as Bethesda’s next flagship title.

Approximately eight years in the making, the sci-fi RPG finally hit the shelves on September 6, 2023, sparking great anticipation among its dedicated fanbase.

However, Starfield failed to fully live up to the hype.

In a leisurely tempo, encountering performance problems, and occasionally featuring lackluster dialogue and flat characters, Starfield turned into a somewhat dull rather than exhilarating cosmic journey for certain members of the community.

It appears that the DLC functions comparably. Yet, when Star Wars mods like the anticipated Star Wars Genesis are introduced, the potential exists for Starfield to gain a fresh perspective through the creative contributions of its modding community.

Shattered Space DLC

On September 30, 2024, an expansion pack (DLC) was unveiled, introducing a fresh, secluded region into the game that functions as the domain for the Va’ruun group.

In the expanded narrative, we explore more about the intricate customs and internal struggles within this enigmatic community, a dimension that was subtly suggested but not fully explored in the primary game.

In order to begin the Downloadable Content (DLC), players must first finish the initial mission within the main game and attain a character level of at least 35.

At present, the game is approximately $30 on Steam, and it’s part of both the Premium and Constellation Editions.

Mods in Starfield?

Reactions to the Shattered Space DLC were largely negative.

Critics specifically highlighted several concerns about the DLC, including its brief playtime duration, which typically ranges from 6 to 8 hours for story mode, its expensive price tag, and persistent technical problems.

Concurrently, the launch of the DLC expanded possibilities for Starfield mod creators. Now, the game provides official mod support via Bethesda’s Creation Kit, a tool that became available in June 2024.

With these tools, gamers can design their personalized modifications, spanning from minor adjustments up to comprehensive transformations.

Similar to past titles from Bethesda Game Studios like Skyrim and Fallout 4, dedicated creators have the ability to expand the game world with fresh questlines, characters, settings, and even innovative gameplay elements through modding.

The modification is a piece of a broader assembly known as “Star Wars Genesis,” where it combines various classic Star Wars features within the gaming experience.

Key features include:

  • The introduction of the Millennium Falcon and Mandalorian Armor.
  • A complete overhaul of Starfield’s dialogues and voice acting to tell a new story within the Star Wars universe.
  • Revised sound effects and music to capture the quintessential Star Wars atmosphere.
  • An original storyline that draws heavily from the lore of older Star Wars video game classics.

Va’ruun’kai becomes Korriban

The native planet of the Starfield, known as Va’ruun’ka, which was under the jurisdiction of the Va’ruun House, has been annexed by the Sith Empire and reimagined as the Star Wars planet Korriban, a place where the Empire’s strongest Sith reside.

Looking ahead, Vengy intends to broaden the narrative, incorporate Sith temples featuring challenging boss battles, and introduce new features.

„This is a Total Conversion project, meaning that every aspect of Starfield is being replaced or modified in some sort of way, to the point that one may consider this a different game.“

The modification is available on Nexus Mods and has been optimized for the latest version of Starfield.
