As a seasoned gamer of life, with over two decades of binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and frustration at this lengthy break. While I understand the need for a Thanksgiving hiatus, the fact that this pause extends into the new year has left me with an emptiness in my Thursday nights that even a fresh bag of popcorn can’t fill.
The doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital are eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for them, but it seems that the makers of Grey’s Anatomy aren’t quite ready yet. Unfortunately, there won’t be a new episode airing tonight on Thursday, Nov. 28th.
Tonight’s absence of a fresh episode isn’t really unexpected. After all, it’s Thanksgiving, and on this day, network television tends to take a break from airing new episodes of scripted dramas. Instead, people are likely spending time with loved ones, watching football, or out and about, rather than tuning in to their usual programming.
Unfortunately, there’s some disappointing news regarding this break. Unlike previous years, ABC will not be airing new episodes from the TGIT lineup following Thanksgiving in 2024. The November 21st episode of Grey’s Anatomy marked the last for the year 2024.
Grey’s Anatomy is taking a lengthy break
The last episode functioned as a mid-season finale, and it ended on several suspenseful notes. We saw Owen mistakenly assume that Cass and Teddy were up to something in the elevator, leaving us guessing. Additionally, we’re uncertain about who was wounded in the supermarket – was it Lucas or the gunman? And there’s also the mystery of Jo, who mentioned she had a wound; is she alright?
We won’t get answers to all our burning questions for some time. You see, this break is much longer than we would initially prefer. Grey’s Anatomy will return on Thursday, March 6.
While some might initially complain, I’d like to highlight a positive aspect of the extended hiatus – it allows for a continuous run of episodes from March to May with minimal scheduling interruptions. Ideally, more networks would adopt this approach. The uninterrupted schedule provides greater continuity and benefits the show overall.
Instead of waiting for your favorite shows’ return on a rollercoaster schedule of two weeks on, then two weeks off, it seems other networks operate like that. However, this long gap now means less waiting as the season progresses.
Grey’s Anatomy will return on Thursday, March 6 at 10/9c on ABC. Catch up on the series on Hulu.
