As a gamer with a soft spot for Disney and its rich musical history, I must say that The Last Verse short film left me utterly moved. Having grown up listening to the Sherman Brothers‘ iconic tunes, it was truly heartwarming to witness this touching tribute to their decades-long collaboration with Disney.
As a tribute to the Sherman Brothers, Disney has shared a short film called “The Last Verse“, which is approximately 3 minutes and 30 seconds long. This movie includes an additional verse penned by Richard Sherman himself, to their well-known song “It’s a Small World”, before his passing in May of this year.
In a statement, Disney CEO Bob Iger shared that the Sherman brothers, who crafted beloved melodies from the last century, left an indelible mark on our worldwide culture. The poignant moment of Richard Sherman singing the closing verse to ‘It’s a Small World’ before his passing will stay with me forever. This touching film serves as our tribute to their invaluable musical accomplishments, their legacy, and the countless cherished memories they helped create for people worldwide over the years.

What is The Last Verse short about?
The logline states that this heartfelt movie guide audiences through six decades of the song’s story, highlighting its influence on worldwide popular culture.
The Last Verse serves as a tribute to Richard and Robert Sherman’s decades-long musical collaboration with Disney. Besides “It’s a Small World,” the duo had also produced timeless songs and scores for movies such as Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book (1976), Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971), and more. For their work in Mary Poppins, they received two Oscars for Best Original Song and Best Original Score.
The short film was helmed by Henry Alex Rubin, who previously directed “Murderball”, in collaboration with Disney’s creative partners, adam&eveDDB. The iconic tune that accompanies it was penned by the Sherman Brothers way back in 1964 for a similar attraction.
