As a seasoned horror enthusiast with a soft spot for British productions and a penchant for unconventional storylines, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation upon hearing about Shudder’s acquisition of Benjamin Barfoot’s paranormal horror masterpiece, “Daddy’s Head.” Having had the misfortune of losing my own father at a tender age, I find myself inexplicably drawn to narratives that explore the complexities of grief and loss.
Shudder, the streaming platform, has picked up Benjamin Barfoot’s paranormal horror film titled “Daddy’s Head“, and they have scheduled its release for the Halloween season.
The agreement encompasses North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and New Zealand. Barfoot’s second film is set to make its exclusive debut on a horror-focused streaming platform on October 11, 2024.
In a chilling tale, we follow a boy and his newly-widowed stepmother as they live in terror due to an eerie, inexplicable being that seems to resemble a terrifying manifestation of the boy’s late father, who has recently passed away.
Who stars in Daddy’s Head?
The film titled “Daddy’s Head” is helmed by director Benjamin Barfoot, known for his work on “Double Date”. Stigma Films, led by Matthew James Wilkinson and Patrick Tolan, are the producers. The movie features an impressive cast including Julia Brown from BBC’s World of Fire, Nathaniel Martello-White from Small Axes: Mangrove, Charles Aitken known for Happy Death Day, Kaisa Hammarlund from The Nest, Mary Woodvine from Enys Men, Ako Mitchell best recognized from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Deepica Stephen, and Nila Aalia, who has previously worked on The Commuter.
For director Benjamin Barfoot, “Daddy’s Head” holds significant meaning due to its blend of intimate family themes, grief, and trauma alongside his exploration of horror. He expressed his delight in collaborating with Shudder, a company that has consistently demonstrated eagerness and enthusiasm for the project.
In 2017, Barfoot’s first full-length film, the blend of horror and comedy titled Double Date, made its premiere. The audience generally found it appealing. This film follows the story of Jim, a man who is petrified of women, as he embarks on an unwilling mission to demonstrate his masculinity on the eve of his 30th birthday. Accompanied by his boastful friend Alex, they encounter the enchanting duo Kitty and Lulu, who appear open to a night filled with wild parties. However, these sisters, disguised as seductresses, have an ulterior motive that goes beyond just taking Jim’s virginity… Proving oneself in matters of love has never been this challenging, or so bloody.
