The show was given a two-year extension for seasons 3 and 4 back in January 2022, following the successful premiere of season 2 in December 2021. Two-part release date in summer 2024

Mentioned previously, the new season 4 of “Emily in Paris” will be released in two portions this summer. The first part, featuring five episodes, is scheduled for release on Thursday, August 15th. The second part, consisting of the remaining five episodes, will follow on Thursday, September 12th. Some viewers may not prefer Netflix’s recent trend of two-part releases, but few series leave you hanging with anticipation like this one does!

Following the writers’ strike, it was predicted that the fourth season would commence as early as fall 2023, based on reports from Variety. However, this start date became uncertain due to the prolonged WGA strike during the summer and the onset of the SAG strike in July. The production schedule, initially set for the summer of 2023, was then moved to October. Unfortunately, neither of these filming dates were achieved.

At an added complexity, the filming location for “Emily in Paris,” Cité du Cinema, is scheduled for use during the Olympics commencing in December 2023 and concluding in October 2024. Nevertheless, according to Variety, the writers’ strike will have been settled by September 2023, and the actors’ strike will be resolved on November 8. Consequently, production for season 4 is slated to start on January 15, 2024, before the Olympics, and continue for five months. Moreover, a shoot in Italy was scheduled for April 2024.

Trailer and synopsis

In the fourth season, not only Emily is experiencing change but also many others. After her break-up with Alfie, Emily is left to cope with the fallout from Gabriel and Camille’s botched wedding and unexpected baby announcement. Meanwhile, Sylvie encounters a shock from the past as Mindy’s band gears up for a major performance. However, things take an even more dramatic turn when two secrets threaten to shake up Emily and Gabriel’s world. What could these secrets be? We’ll have to wait and see!

Here’s the official season 4 synopsis via Netflix:

After the dramatic events of Camille and Gabriel’s misbegotten wedding, Emily is reeling: She has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel’s expecting a baby with his ex, and Alfie’s worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed. At work, Sylvie is forced to confront a thorny dilemma from her past for the sake of her marriage, and the Agence Grateau team navigates personnel shakeups. Mindy and the band prepare for Eurovision, but when funds run dry, they’re forced to get thrifty. Emily and Gabriel’s chemistry is undeniable as they work together towards a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of.

Season 4 wrapped filming in May 2024

In April 2024, Collins and the rest of the cast completed filming season 4 of their show in Paris. They marked the end of production with a wrap party in the city, which Collins and Ashley Park shared numerous photos and videos from on social media, leaving us feeling envious (FOMO). Immediately afterward, they traveled to Rome, Italy to shoot scenes for the upcoming season’s Roman storyline that Netflix had previously teased for Emily’s character. Upon her arrival, Collins enthusiastically captured her early experiences in Rome through a series of photos. Filming came to an end on May 16, and Collins celebrated this milestone with a lighthearted update.

Previous season 4 production updates

On January 19, 2024, Netflix announced with great enthusiasm that the production for the fourth season of “Emily in Paris” had begun. To mark this exciting milestone, Netflix posted a selfie of Lily Collins holding her script for the first episode, which was penned by Grant Sloss and helmed by Andy Fleming. Regrettably, the title of the episode wasn’t visible on the script’s cover page, but observant fans noticed that the table read for the initial episode took place on January 17.

Collins announced the thrilling update to her followers, expressing her joy at being back together with the cast and team in Paris. She even published a video showing the making of the season 4 announcement selfie on set. Though she may believe her skills for Emily’s selfies have deteriorated, she still did an excellent job! Take a look at the selfie in the image below.

September 29th saw Variety announcing a potential start date of January 2024 for season 4 production of the show, given that the summer Olympic Games had already taken up a significant amount of the city’s time and space in 2024. Fortunately, SAG-AFTRA managed to secure a favorable agreement with AMPTP by the end of 2023, allowing production to commence as planned. Then, on November 16th, Variety shared that filming had officially begun on January 15, 2024, in Paris and was projected to last for five months.

Due to the Cité du Cinema studios being occupied by the Olympics from November 2023 onwards for filming, “Emily in Paris” shot season 4 at Studios Monjoie. Exterior scenes were still captured around the city. Production had to finish by June 2024 as city regulations prohibit filming in specific areas from July to September 2024.

Beforehand, it was assumed that the filming for “Emily in Paris” season 4 might have started in summer 2023 based on this tweet from writer Joshua Levy. In the tweet, Levy revealed a message from Netflix about initiating the planning process for season 4 in the writers room. This implies that the writers had already been brainstorming storylines and drafting scripts prior to the strikes occurring.

Cast

If I’m a fan of “Emily in Paris,” I’d put it this way: In my favorite show’s third season, Lucien Laviscount was bumped up to a regular role, and all the leading actors from seasons one and two came back. Looking ahead, assuming no changes, this is now our stellar cast for “Emily in Paris”:

  • Lily Collins as Emily Cooper
  • Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie
  • Ashley Park as Mindy Chen
  • Lucas Bravo as Gabriel
  • Samuel Arnold as Julien
  • Bruno Gouery as Luc
  • Camille Razat as Camille
  • William Abadie as Antoine Lambert
  • Lucien Laviscount as Alfie

In addition, the third season brought about new characters who will continue to appear in the upcoming fourth season. Paul Forman portrays Mindy’s romantic interest Nicolas de Léon, while Melia Kreiling takes on the role of Sofia, Camille’s love interest. Kevin Dias resurfaces as Benoît, and Kate Walsh re-enters her part as Madeline Wheeler, Emily’s American superior. Although Walsh’s plotline was concluded in season 3, she may still make a comeback to cause more turbulence. Keep an eye out for casting updates regarding season 4!

The following new characters will be seen in season 4:

  • Eugenio Franceschini as Marcello
  • Rupert Everett as Giorgio Barbieri
  • Thalia Besson as Genevieve
  • Anna Galiena as Antonia Muratori
  • Raoul Bova as Giancarlo

Ashley Park shares septic shock recovery

Approximately a month after Park first shared her health struggles with the public, she provided an update to followers of Emily in Paris: she was once again wearing Mindy’s glitzy costumes.

On January 19th, Ashley Park, who plays Mindy on Instagram, shared a heartfelt post about her health struggles that began at the end of last year. In her caption, she revealed that a case of tonsillitis in December escalated into a life-threatening septic shock, which affected multiple organs. Remarkably, despite the grim initial prognosis, her health has since shown significant improvement.

In her post, Park shared a collection of photos taken at the hospital and extended her heartfelt appreciation towards her dedicated medical team, including doctors and ICU nurses, whom she referred to as her “personal squad of heroes.” She also highlighted her deep affection for Paul Forman, expressing it as more than she can put into words. Emily’s fans will recall that Forman portrayed Nicolas de Léon, Park’s love interest in season 3. The actress also wanted to reassure everyone that she is still in the process of recovering but remains optimistic and confident that she will pull through.

A gifted actress and musician, Park received numerous heartfelt messages from notables like Lily Collins, Busy Philipps of “Mean Girls” and “Girls5eva,” Mindy Kaling, Lucien Laviscount, and Glen Powell, among many other fans. Wishing Park continued success and gratitude for her recovery, we extend our love and excitement for her return to the spotlight, showcasing her exceptional talents once again.

Warning: Spoilers from Emily in Paris season 3 ahead!

What could happen in season 4?

Towards the end of season 3, Camille aborts her wedding to Gabriel at the last minute and reveals the secret deal she had with Emily. This unexpected disclosure brings to light the unacknowledged emotions between Emily and Gabriel. Additionally, Alfie departs from Emily, unwilling to be a backup option for her love.

After their heartfelt conversation at their wedding, Gabriel unexpectedly reveals to Emily that Camille is expecting a child. The upcoming fourth season of Emily in Paris is certain to explore the complications that ensue as Emily, Gabriel, and Camille deal with this new development.

At the TUDUM Global Event, I was thrilled when Lily Collins made a surprise appearance. She gave us an exciting sneak peek into what’s coming up in season 4 of our favorite show. Emily is going on a Roman vacation! I can’t wait to find out more about this new adventure and get some answers to the questions that have been keeping me on the edge of my seat.
