Zuckerberg creates Meta Superintelligence Labs, to be led by ex-Scale AI & ex-GitHub CEO

Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Meta Superintelligence Labs, a fresh umbrella entity dedicated to refining the upcoming versions of Meta’s artificial intelligence systems. This innovative venture will be helmed by seasoned AI leaders hailing from diverse organizations, pooling their expertise for this exciting new initiative.

On June 30, 2025, I received word from Zuckerberg about an exciting development through a memo that was picked up by Bloomberg and later confirmed by CNBC. In this communication, he emphasized the rapid progress in AI technology, calling it the dawn of a new era for humanity. This new umbrella organization, to be known as Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), will guide us at Meta towards realizing our vision of personal superintelligence for all.

As a passionate follower, I’m thrilled to share that the memo highlights Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman as key figures in the MSL team. Alexandr Wang, who recently joined Meta as the Chief AI Officer, will spearhead our AI initiatives. Accompanying him is Nat Friedman, who brings his extensive experience from running GitHub for Microsoft and serving on the Meta Advisory Group for a year. Together, they’ll be leading the development of innovative AI products and applied research.

The CNBC report indicates that OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, mentioned in a podcast that Meta had been attempting to recruit employees from his company, even providing signing bonuses worth $100 million. As per an interview with CNBC, Andrew Bosworth stated that OpenAI was responding to Meta’s offers.

A significant amount of wealth is circulating within the AI sector, with recent developments showing Elon Musk proposing a purchase of OpenAI for approximately $97.4 billion. Meanwhile, Microsoft has been consistently pouring billions into AI-related endeavors, and it’s expected that they will invest around $80 billion in this area this year.

Many big corporations are fiercely competing to take the lead in the AI race. Although Meta has been exploring the domain, this newly formed group appears to be making a concerted effort towards one common goal. Keep an eye on our AI section for updates about this exciting new territory.
