Zoe Saldaña’s Oscar Statuette Is Trans & Has They/Them Pronouns

After winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress a couple of months ago, Zoe Saldaña has recently come out identifying the iconic statuette as gender-neutral.

What did Zoe Saldaña say about her Oscar statuette?

At the Los Angeles premiere of the upcoming Pixar film Elio, Zoe Saldana was questioned about where she keeps the Oscar she won for her role in Emilia Pérez. She responded that it’s located in her office, and furthermore disclosed that the statuette is gender-neutral or transgender.

In her office, Saldaña mentioned that she has an Oscar and that Oscar identifies beyond traditional male or female genders. She clarified that the statue is referred to using they/them pronouns, indicating its trans identity. This statement seems to be connected to the fact that Saldaña won the award for portraying a lawyer who assists Emilia Pérez in transitioning from their life as a cartel boss through gender-affirming surgery.

Zendaya scored her first Oscar win, both as a nominee and a winner, and the film also won an Oscar for two songs, one being “El Mal.” Apart from Emilia Pérez, Zendaya will be seen in the 2025 releases ‘Elio’ and ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ and she is also set to feature in ‘Avatar 4,’ which isn’t slated for release until around 2029.
