The “Rebel Moon,” the space opera by Zack Snyder, is set to have a prequel comic book series that tells the backstory of one of its characters.

The comic series “Rebel Moon: Nemesis,” published by Titan Comics, will explore the tale of the Netflix movies’ cyborg swordswoman character, Nemesis, portrayed by Doona Bae on screen.

The comic series, penned by acclaimed author Gail Simone and illustrated by Federico Bertoni, delves into the past of Nemesis. Before he transformed into a half-mechanical, sword-wielding assassin, this narrative unfolds as a thrilling tale. It’s reminiscent of a revenge western, where an unsuspecting woman encounters Imperium soldiers who brutally kill her family.

It seems this concept bears a resemblance to Red Sonja’s backstory from her Conan spinoff, as Simone, who has written for that character in the past, holds progressive and modern views. However, considering Simone’s political leanings, it might not be worth investing the effort. As for Snyder, his selections of comic writers are questionable. Recently, he worked with a writer named Magdaline who has mental health issues, and he appears to disregard dedicated fans of his work.

Apart from this, it’s evident that the story is yet another dark narrative, which has grown repetitive when it comes from Snyder. Additionally, it’s important to mention that this seems like another Netflix production heavily influenced by PC (computer game) culture, and this fact alone might give you an idea of how much of a cliche this could turn out to be.
