Yungblud’s bold move Ozzy fans cheered but Soundgarden wouldn’t dare

It’s possible that Yungblud is well-known among many music fans, yet struggle to recall the title of one of his own tracks. Although we’ve caught glimpses of his videos, he seems somewhat unremarkable to some listeners. Interestingly enough, when it comes to covering other artists’ songs, Yungblud consistently delivers impressive performances.

In 2021, he performed a rendition of David Bowie’s “Life on Mars,” demonstrating his versatility in both entertaining and singing. This performance, amid the melancholy backdrop of the COVID-19 lockdown, served as an unexpected yet poignant reflection. However, one might have raised eyebrows seeing Yungblud on the setlist for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s farewell show, as his inclusion could seem puzzling at first glance.

It’s undeniable that he isn’t a metal sculptor; therefore, it’s intriguing to understand how he found his place. His actions align with logic and are easy to comprehend. Interestingly, he accomplished something that Soundgarden arguably should have done as well.

Yungblud might have earned some new fans with his performance at the Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath farewell

Yungblud took part in the debut of the initial supergroup at Ozzy and Sabbath’s farewell show, performing a single song titled “Changes.” Prior to his stage appearance, the singer expressed that he wasn’t anxious, but he was aware that his reception might not be instantaneous. He seemed like an unusual fit among the group.

Midway through his act, the audience began to appreciate Yungblud’s determination to deliver the song appropriately, and he was excelling at it remarkably. The song, too, suits the singer’s approach, being slow and gradually intensifying, offering ample room for him to express himself emotionally.

As a devoted fan, I can confidently say that Yungblud convincingly demonstrated his worth at the farewell show. Initially, concert music director and Rage Against the Machine guitarist, Tom Morello, harbored doubts about whether Yungblud was the right fit for the gig, and was far from convinced that the singer should perform one of Ozzy’s most legendary songs. However, through his exceptional performance, Yungblad managed to win over Morello’s skepticism, leaving me in awe.

The unexpectedly enduring bond between Yungblud and Ozzy Osbourne is the link here. In an interview with NME, the 27-year-old shared, “I couldn’t pass up (the concert). We’ve grown incredibly close, and he holds a special place in my heart. His music has offered me an outlet, and he’s provided me with valuable guidance. When I felt misunderstood by others, I found solace crying to him on the phone. He’s consistently encouraged me, saying, ‘People may not understand you, but don’t change course, keep fighting and keep pushing.’ To me, Ozzy isn’t just an icon, he’s family.

Initially, what mattered most was the first part. Before the Ozzy and Sabbath farewell show came about, Yungblud had another engagement lined up. However, upon learning of the significance of the latter event, he decided to cancel his previous commitment in order to attend the more significant concert instead.

While acts like Soundgarden were more suited for the send-off, unfortunately, they were unable to attend due to being engrossed in their own commitments, making it impossible to interrupt those tasks to pay tribute to the legendary duo of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne.

In essence, Yungblud has a chance to acquire new followers due to the event, whereas Soundgarden may possibly lose some. Crucially, what Yungblud did was vital – unlike Soundgarden, he made an appearance.
