Oh, boy! As someone who grew up in the ’90s and early 2000s, I can hardly contain my excitement about the Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection! I remember staying up late, glued to the TV screen every week for the anime, and spending countless hours on my Game Boy, battling it out with friends in the Duel Monsters games. This collection is like a trip down memory lane, a chance to relive those moments of joy and camaraderie.
Konami has unveiled the Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection, a trip down memory lane containing numerous vintage games that were initially released from 1998 to 2004. This compilation is set to debut for both Nintendo Switch and PC on February 27, 2024.
What is in Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection?
Celebrating Yu-Gi-Oh!’s 25th anniversary, Konami is releasing the Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection. This special edition contains classic card game versions from the past. At present, eight games have been confirmed for this set, with additional titles yet to be disclosed in future announcements. Here are the games announced thus far:
- Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (1998/GAME BOY)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters II: Dark Duel Stories (1999/GAME BOY, GAME BOY COLOR)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories (2000 JP, 2002 US, 2003 EU/GAME BOY COLOR)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 4: Battle of Great Duelist (2000/GAME BOY COLOR. Includes online battles support).
- Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters 6, Expert 2 (2001/GAME BOY ADVANCE)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! The Eternal Duelist Soul (2001 JP, 2002 US, 2003 EU/GAME BOY ADVANCE)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards (2002 JP, 2003 US, 2004 EU/GAME BOY ADVANCE)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! Reshef of Destruction (2003 JP, 2004 US and EU/GAME BOY ADVANCE)
This revamped Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection enhances the original versions with various updates such as convenience enhancements, a save/load feature, and internet connectivity options. Upon its release, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 4: Battle of Great Duelist will enable online combat. Additional games will receive online functionality after the launch.
Currently, you can purchase the Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection physical version at specific stores for $49.99. Later on, we’ll announce digital preorders. Those who go for the physical edition will receive one of two Quarter Century Secret Rare Harpie’s Feather Duster cards to expand their collection.
Way back in ’96, I stumbled upon Kazuki Takahashi’s Yu-Gi-Oh! manga series in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. This epic tale eventually gave birth to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in ’99, modeled after the Duel Monsters game from the comic. Not long after, the anime version hit screens in 2000, making my gaming world even more captivating!
