Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’s Hudson Thames Feared Series Would Be ‘Woke’

Initially, Hudson Thames, who voices the lead character in “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”, seemed apprehensive about the tone the series might take. The first two episodes of the show debuted on Disney+ and will adopt an unconventional release strategy for future installments. Although fans haven’t solidified their opinions about the animated series yet, Thames seems satisfied with the writing. However, he recently disclosed that he had worries regarding the show’s reception.

Hudson Thames says Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man isn’t ‘annoying and woke’

In a current conversation, Hudson Thames, the voice actor for Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, shared his opinions about the scriptwriting in the series. He voiced concerns that it might come off as irritating or overtly progressive.

In an interview with Collider’s Mike Thomas, the voice actor shared his thoughts on joining the new Spider-Man series. Thames expressed, “I found it fantastic! To be honest, my main concern was that it would be bothersome and overly progressive, but it wasn’t, and I was delighted because the writing is superb, authentic, and genuinely reflects real life. As the eldest of five brothers, I feel I have a sense of what their lives are like in high school, and it seemed to me that they were doing justice to those experiences.

Produced by Jeff Trammell, this animated show delves into the backstory of the web-slinging superhero. Hudson Thames lends his voice to Peter Parker in the series, who assumes the role of Spider-Man while still attending high school. Unlike in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Colman Domingo’s character, Norman Osborn, serves as a mentor to Parker instead of Tony Stark.

Prior to portraying Spider-Man in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Hudson Thames had previously given voice to this famous character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s What If…? series. Now, he is set to continue his role in the initial season of the show, comprising 10 episodes.
