Susan Walters on Ashley and Diane’s rivalry in The Young and the Restless
During a chat with Soap Opera Digest, Susan Walters discussed the ongoing feud between Ashley and Diane. The actress pointed out that at one point, Diane had been eager to win Ashley’s approval, particularly in relation to Jack Abbott. Yet, she also acknowledged that Ashley had shown some unkindness towards Diane.
Walters stated that Ashley was very disrespectful towards Diane a few years back, right in front of her. Unfortunately, Diane couldn’t retaliate because she had to maintain proper conduct around Jack. So, she was forced to endure Ashley’s harsh words without responding.
I, myself, admitted that tolerating Ashley’s dreadful antics all these years wasn’t really in my nature, but I did so because of my deep longing to be with Jack.
Additionally, Walters highlighted Diane’s attempts to make amends for her previous actions and demonstrate her transformation into a superior individual, a journey that involved choosing the ethical path, especially in encounters with morally questionable or difficult people such as Ashley.
Walters stated, ‘It’s unlikely that Jack would be in a relationship with someone who continues to act badly in the community.’ He simply doesn’t require such complications.
Nevertheless, Walters conceded that Diane might resort to being unscrupulous and amoral “occasionally,” particularly when she encounters Nikki Newman. “That’s the kind of person Diane is,” Walters pointed out. “She’s not one to tolerate much disrespect.
Later on, Walters emphasized that Diane had indeed transformed her actions, pointing out that she hadn’t pretended to be good in front of Jack.
