J. Eddie Peck, who portrays the character Cole on The Young and the Restless, recently discussed his departure from the show and shared his thoughts on how Cole’s relationship with Victoria would develop before his demise. For those who may not be familiar, Cole perished due to complications from Legionnaires’ disease. In his final moments, he fondly recalled happy memories with Claire and Victoria, before saying his goodbyes. Since Peck has already bid farewell on the show, here is what he had to share about how Cole’s story concluded on the soap opera.

More recently, J. Eddie Peck posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing gratitude to fans for their unwavering support and affection towards Cole. In the video, he also offered insights into how his character’s departure unfolded. He admitted that he was taken aback when he learned that Cole would meet his end. Instead, he expected an intriguing plot twist where his character and Victoria could reconcile and strengthen their strained relationship by returning home together.

Josh Griffith, our executive producer and head writer, phoned me a couple of nights before my final day. He told me, “Hey J. Eddie, you may have an idea about where this cold is heading. To be honest, I wasn’t really sure myself at that moment. I had been thinking that Cole was going to fall ill, and the cough was severe, so he would return home with Victoria, and she would nurse him back to health, thus strengthening their relationship.
It was clear to him that the audience had figured out the plot about Cole’s fate on their own. He went on to say, “Indeed, the fans and even I underestimated them. Perhaps it was merely an overconfidence in my optimism.
Additionally, it was initially decided that his character would only be in the show for a limited period. Yet, due to the producers’ appreciation of his character and his chemistry with Victoria, he ended up staying.
