Supporters of “The Young and the Restless” were in for a big shock when Billy Flynn initially showed up as the enigmatic Aristotle Dumas, eventually revealing that he was actually Cane Ashby disguised. Billy Flynn on his approach to Cane Ashby in The Young and the Restless

Upon joining The Young and the Restless, Flynn found himself taking on the character of Cane Ashby, a role previously portrayed by Daniel Goddard for more than a decade. Once he learned about the recasting, Flynn delved into Cane’s past by watching old episodes and examining his relationships, particularly those with ex-wife Lily Winters, played by Christel Khalil.

Flynn shared with TV Insider that Cane and Lily were quite popular before he joined the show. This meant not only did he need to establish a connection with Christel, but also overcome the challenges of being non-Australian and slightly younger. He acknowledged the strong bond between Cane and Lily as a testament to their acting skills. However, he emphasized that he won’t simply imitate Goddard’s performance.

Flynn isn’t simply emulating Goddard’s portrayal of Cane in The Young and the Restless; rather, he’s adding his unique touch to the character, modifying the accent and revising the generational dynamics with Lily.

The actor mentioned that there will be some adjustments to make the characters’ ages more similar, and he won’t be using a seductive accent in his portrayal. Since he can’t imitate it, he plans to bring his unique style to the role. He also expressed confidence that viewers will appreciate his portrayal of Cane and his relationship with Lily when they see it.

Regardless of any shifts, Flynn remains certain that spectators will still perceive the core of Cane, particularly in his bond with Lily. In his own words, “There might be many alterations, but Lily is Cane’s one true love, and I’ve got a knack for portraying that.
