If there’s a literary treasure chest to be found, Jesse Q. Sutanto’s works are the golden nuggets within it! I devoured You Will Never Be Me, and it was a veritable feast for my reading appetite.

If you’re unaware of who Jesse Q. Sutanto is, it’s time to catch up! Over the past few years, she has penned some highly acclaimed books such as “Dial A for Aunties”, “Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers”, and “Well, That Was Unexpected”. Her writing prowess spans a wide range of genres.
Delving into the novel “You Will Never Be Me“, I anticipated a thriller with an emphasis on influencer culture, a subject that sometimes falls flat. However, since the author is Jesse Q. Sutanto, I had no cause for concern and was confidently looking forward to my reading experience.

In terms of thrillers, I’m careful not to reveal too many spoilers. As noted earlier, this book focuses on two influential figures: Meredith and Aspen. At the outset, Aspen appears to be leading a perfect life with her family, yet she’s had a major spat with Meredith. It’s evident that their relationship is strained, and Meredith is grappling with a great deal of bitterness and envy.
As a gamer, I find myself taking charge of my situation and tracking down Aspen. In a moment of impulse, I swipe her iPad and start utilizing her creative concepts. Unfortunately, I stir up some complications that leave Aspen in a pickle. Simultaneously, we’re treated to glimpses of our past encounters – the moments when Meredith and I first crossed paths and the highlights of our friendship. However, things take an unexpected twist as Meredith vanishes, thrusting Aspen into the spotlight. As her closest friend, it’s now all about Aspen and her quest to find me.
You’ll Never Take My Place delivers all the elements of a gripping thriller with its dose of tension, intrigue, and numerous interwoven narratives that keep readers hooked. Author Sutanto also offers insightful observations about the world of influencers, highlighting how superficiality can dominate. What left me astounded was the seamless execution of multiple plotlines in this novel. Once I got drawn in, I found myself unable to put it down.
If you’re a fan of Jesse Q. Sutanto’s previous novels, her distinctive style is evident here as well. Moreover, each character in this story is intricately developed, leaving you uncertain about who to support. This is a sign of a gripping thriller and exceptional writing, so don’t hesitate – add this book to your collection!
