Fans are curious to know why Jenna Ortega, a key character from ‘You’ Season 2, was absent in Season 5. The showrunners, Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo, have shed light on the reason for her character Ellie Alves’ absence from the latest season. In the second season of You, Jenna Ortega portrayed Ellie Alves, a budding teenager filmmaker who lived as Joe Goldberg’s neighbor, played by Penn Badgley.
In the series, after Delilah (played by Carmela Zumbado), Alves’ older sister, is tragically murdered, Joe decides to send Ellie away for safety reasons, specifically to Los Angeles. Although this plot point meant that Jenna Ortega’s role on You came to an end, the creators desired her return for Season 5. However, as per Foley and Lo’s recent statements, scheduling complications prevent them from bringing back Ellie in the upcoming season.
Jenna Ortega isn’t in You Season 5 because of Wednesday Season 2
In a recent conversation, Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo revealed that Jenna Ortega’s dedication to Wednesday Season 2 necessitated their decision to exclude her character from the final season of You. Additionally, they provided insights on how Ellie’s storyline might have unfolded in Season 5 if not for Jenna Ortega’s participation in Wednesday.
As I chatted with Business Insider, Foley clarified the reason behind Ortega’s absence in You Season 5. “It turned out to be quite intricate due to her busy schedule filming Wednesday in Ireland,” he said. ” frankly, it seemed nearly impossible to align our schedules, and we couldn’t find a solution that worked for us.
Later on, Foley pointed out that if they had cast the 22-year-old actress Jenna Ortega in You Season 5, Ellie’s character would have been a source of aid for Dominique and Phoenix. Lo also discussed how Ellie and Joe’s storylines might have evolved in Season 5, suggesting, “There could be an argument made for supporting Joe because he was supportive during a tough period in her life. However, you could also say that Ellie is smart enough to suspect Joe played a part in her sister’s death, even though it was actually Love. Thus, she might have turned against him too.
In a recent development, the fifth season of “You” started streaming on Netflix from April 24, featuring a total of 10 episodes. On the other hand, the second installment of “Wednesday,” starring Jenna Ortega, is set to release in two parts later this year. The first part will be available for viewing on Netflix from August 6, and the second part will premiere on September 3.
